Need some help with a rifle I looked at today, its in .257 Roberts, says "Made In Austria" on the left hand side of the bbl. also has some engraved letters/numbers under that just hard to make out because of the stock. Beautiful rifle all the way around, even the follower on the magazine is jeweled, they want 1750.00 for it,I have no idea if this is in the ballpark or not,It would be bought to keep and hunt with. Any thoughts on this gun would be appreciated. Thanks........Greg [

barrel is made in Austria. Pretty sure that's the only thing made there. I'd bet the stock is made here in the US. Fleur checkering is a US thing. Biesen maybe? Not sure why they would put it on a Germanic stock. Well forend at least. Kind of like wearing lederhosen on a Victoria Secret runway along with some US army boots. Also not sure why you didn't post a pic of the rifle. All I see are little parts of it. Bolt handle is US as well. Nobody across the pond ever makes them look that good.

Commercial action, looks like a military bolt shroud. Nice work, too bad they didn't clock the action screws to be in alignment. Good bottom metal. Guessing Beuhler safety. W/o a name attached to the artistry, $1750 might be a bit high. Can you verify the barrel maker, 'smith, stockmaker...?

Just an opinion... $1750 is a steal for the work I'm seeing..... $400 for a plain Jane barrel job and this one is octagon... Engraving and checkering isn't cheap..... Trapdoor buttplate.... Action...$150 Bolt handle...$75 Wood $350 minimum..... look at the nice touches around the bolt release and the bottom metal. Not even counting the labor.... Screw indexing is minor. You can do it yourself.

More like $350 + metal checkering. Looks like a T Burgess job.

That one's had some pretty classic work done to it - - - -definitely worth the money if you plan to make it work for its keep. "Art that shoots" is for people with more money than sense- - - - -the deer won't ask who did the engraving before it falls over dead! Jerry

Thanks Guys, Sorry about not getting an overall picture,no reason why just forgot, seems anytime someone post up pictures of a anything everyone says they need more detailed pictures so thats probably why I just didn't get them. The bbl has a probably 3/8'' wide,1/4'' high full length matted rib,the bbl is round, there are no proof marks visible, didn't see any kind of initials on the engraving, but I may have missed them. When I get back there if its not sold I will make sure to get a couple more pictures. Almost forgot are these kind of builds usually good shooters in general, not expecting bug holes just wondering with the right ammo what to expect @100yds.
Thanks.......Greg

Pretty damn cool.
The engraving doesn’t float my boat, nor does the fluer checkering. Still a cool rifle though!

You can do it yourself. To have that done today would put the gun in the $4500 range. But a gun like this NEVER brings the investment money unless a big name is attached to it. Big name 'smith, engraver or owner.

That is absolutely true. It then goes to what the market will bear, or how does the buyer value it. But at sale price of just over 1/3 of a build cost, or new price range of a better quality factory rifle, it remains a good buy.

I have to agree. I would pay that for that rifle as it embodies all the features of a custom Mauser I would include were I to ever go down that road again. I would update the scope mounts though. How well should it shoot? Impossible to say, but there's one surefire way of finding out. Let us know how it does!

That rifle is a little too ‘busy’ for my eye.

Like some, I agree... Hell Yes!! It's a steal... regardless of any history provenance you'll have to wait a long while to find another one like it. They're few and far between... I spent more for a lot less and felt I got a great deal.... :-)
