I have a Savage Model 99, takedown, in 25-35 that was made in 1911. This was given to me when I was a kid by a neighbor who’s husband died and she did not want a gun around her house. This was about 60 years ago. Looking at Gunbroker for a value for the last couple of months I see none. Is this particularly rare of do people just hold on to them? A couple of years ago, when my wife decided to take up handgun shooting, I finally bought Several box’s of ammunition and shot it. I was very impressed how it shoots and the quality of manufacture for a gun that’s 100+ years old.. the finish is worn but the rest is primo, no stock cracks, mechanically perfect shoots well is as accurate as I am. thanks, Tom

I still don't have a 25-35 so I couldn't even venture a guess what it's worth.

The .25-25 was chambered in about 7 model 1899s from 1903 to around 1917 or so. Don't see them very often.

Log in to Gunbroker, click on Advanced (to the right of the Search button), then click on the completed items tab and put in your criteria. There's a couple .25-35 completed auctions

If you provide a few more details (barrel length, barrel type (round, octagon, half-octagon, butt type (crescent or shotgun) or a couple pictures we can help you with determining which 1899 model you have. I'd put odds on it being a 20" Model 1899H (has a black rubber butt plate).

Can you give us the first 4 of the serial number. Murray's book has a line that says the takedown was not available in the 1899 Short rifle until 1917.

Pretty uncommon rifle in a fun cal to shoot. Nice condition for its age. I would be proud to own it.GW

That's an early model 99 F lightweight, uncommon model especially with the checkering, and finding one in 25-35 and checkering is like finding unicorn tears!

OOPs, it is an 1899H takedown, I failed to notice the serial number range. See if it has an "H" stamped on the front of the receiver, should be visible by taking the forearm off.

What is stamped is what appears to be an o or a c, I’ll see if I can get a close up and post

22” barrel and dovetail front sight make it a model 1899A SR (Short Rifle). The serrated buttplate seems wrong, didn’t think they started until around 140,xxx or so. Might be factory replacement, later serial, or replaced buttplate? Is there a serial number stamped on the underside?

That’s incorrect, the 1899A SR was offered in takedown from the very beginning (May 1906).

Definitely a very, very uncommon gun. Not as much condition as one could wish, but a guy could look a long time for a nicer checkered 1899A SR takedown in 25-35.

The number on the backside of the buttplate, is 46, does not look like it was ever off before. Fit is perfect.
