Did I read somewhere Savage offered a nickle finish option? Very nice rifle! Love the old style piston grip.

Letter is needed with that rifle. GW This. It’s just too easy to nickel plate a gun later. Pretty stock tho.

Looks like only one bidder. Did you snag it? I guess one could always remove the plating and have it professionally rust blued. But I'd make sure the plating doesn't add to the history of the rifle first. Such as A.W. Griffith being the no talent brother of D.W. or Andy's uncle of no particular fame. But as they say about buying the gun and not the story...

special order rifle,i would say it went cheap regardless!!That nickel plating has been on there for ever !!! you can tell from the wear on the bottom of the receiver, you can see the first coat of brass plating before the nickel was put on it! if i had seen this rifle it would be coming to me in a heartbeat !!!!

The early catalogs listed 'Full nickel plating, except barrel" - they also offered the same in silver and gold with the same note about not doing the barrels.

Considering what run of the mill production guns of the era go for, a special order gun with fancy wood, checkering, pistol grip, those sights, and nickel finish ought to be worth about 3 times the selling price imo, or what do you think? The story is icing on the cake but it ain't the cake.

That was my only reservation about it being original. But if a movie company wanted full nickel plating, why wouldn't Savage do it rather than have the company showcase a Winchester?

Since when did the 303 sav. ctg.become rare? It's the rifle and features not the cartridge.

His description says this. ( Savage rifle chambered in the rare 303 savage cartridge) I know the rifle is rare the303 sav. ctg. isn't.

I agree. Someone got a screaming deal. If I had it I would leave everything alone and it would become a safe queen. Buts that's only if I had it and I'm not really attracted to those types of guns.

He'd have had more credibility if he'da said "Chambered for the pedestrian 303 Savage, but wow, check out this rifle!". Oh well, what you gunna do? I did buy the rifle. I waited and no one else took it, so I thought oh well, nobody likes shiny ones I guess.
