My kid is based in Boise, with Pat Rick Environmental and is currently in Alaska fighting the Shovel Creek fire. I told him that I would try to help him find a decent place to live that he can afford. If anybody here lives in Boise and can give me any tips, phone numbers, recommendations etc., all would be appreciated. He just needs a stable place to hang is hat. He is going to be working most of the time through fire season. I am going to head out there next Wednesday, to hopefully get him settled in somewhere.

Thanks. sh

Have a daughter in Boise, I'll see if she knows of anything. College town so it may be hard to get something.

How close to Boise does he need to be? Boise/Meridian/Nampa/Caldwell have gone nuts for real estate and rentals are outrageous. A lot of people are living 50 miles away and commuting. Get on I-84 during rush hour and you'll see what I mean.

Meridian traffic is like LA! (just kidding).

Bit of trivia. The RC Wiley furniture store there did 1.6 million dollars worth of sales on Monday Labor Day 2018.

One bedroom apartments go for ~$800, 2 bedrooms push ~$1000 per month. My daughter recently moved up there and that's the going rate for a decent neighborhood. There are waiting lists for most apartment complex's.

It is going to be a bit tough, I am afraid, but we will look at all options. He can be outside the area a bit, if necessary. I think that he has to be able to respond within a max of two hours. The closer the better, but it depends on what we can find. Just a room is really all that he needs, as he may be gone a lot during fire season.

Absolutely crazy what the market there has done the last few years. My brothers little home there was worth about $140k 3 years ago. Now it's about $350,000.

Guessing then that he needs reasonably prompt access to the Interagency Fire Center, and Boise airport? If he has to settle for something out of the booming megalopolis, I would suggest looking at Mountain Home, to the east. Much less congestion, approaching from that direction.

Yes, Treasure Valley real estate has gone absolutely friggen nuts. Fifty miles west of Boise, my buddy just sold an acre in a mobile home subdivision with a twenty year old double wide and a three car garage/shop for a flat $1/4 million. Two offers the first day it was listed.

Thirty years ago, the whole eighty acres was not worth $50K

When I moved to Meridian in 2007- 2009 - the Apartment [creekside arbour] was $650 . Looked it up a while back - now $1000 for a 1 Br. like the one I had . Just saying .

There were bank owned houses EVERYWHERE there in 2012 when I went and brought the remainder of my stuff back .

Thanks for the input, guys. We will find something, I think. Rooms, apts, we will turn over all rocks. He does not need anything special.

When I lived there last in 2002-3 I shared a 2 bedroom townhome with 1 other person just off of Fairview near St Al's for $300 a month. I had a chance to buy a nice 5 bedroom 3000 square ft home for $125,000 but I moved away to go to grad school and never returned to that part of the state.

My dad bought several homes In and around boise for between 80-150k during 2009-20014. I think he has about 7 but he has started to sell some because he says they've tripled in value.

Last year my SIL was looking for house in Boise or Nampa that she could convert to a duplex. The situation at the time was that if you looked at a house, you had to make an offer on the spot because it would be sold by tomorrow. Your offer had to be high to beat out offers from other lookers. You didn't get a 2d chance.

If all he needs is a place for stuff and to get mail, I'd look at Mountain Home. 40 minutes from the airport, tops, and always an airman that has a place for rent, cheap, while they are on an assignment somewhere else. Then he can get his permanent place after the fire season when he has time to look and find the right spot.

Thanks, Dutch. Good idea.
