Just spent two days in Tacoma, Washington. Surprised it was such a nice city. Beautiful buildings, very nice people, parks, upscale shops. But lots of bars. Ads for pot in local media. There are a lot of homeless people and, it looks like, gay couples. Great weather but I bet it's pretty cold in the winter.
Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.
Democrats would burn this country to the ground, if they could rule over the ashes.

It's an extension of Seattle.

I was stationed right near Tacoma at Ft. Lewis for a around a month - 6 weeks or so in August/September of '67. Great weather while I was there and very beautiful scenic area of the country.
What I was told by locals was that other than lots of rain their winters were usually relatively mild on the west side of the Cascade Mountain range and that the eastern side had rough winters.

First wife and I spent little over 3 years there in the late 80s while I was stationed at Ft Lewis. Probably the first "big city" either of us were ever in. Back then it was a really nice place. Winters weren't bad, upper 30s and 40s, lot of rain. Western side of the mountains in WA seldom gets snow. We had 7 inches one time and it shut down the town for 4 days! As a Guy from Western Pennsylvania, it was funny as hell to see a little snow cause such mayhem! 7mm

I Was in Kirkland in 97 or 98 and it dumped a lot of snow.... my buds and I were pulling people off the road so we could get to the bar.......

I fugging hate Tacoma with a passion.... Really, not exaggerating, I hate it. Just traffic related, immune to the rest.
Glad you enjoyed your trip/stay. Heck of a good time of year in the PNW.

Liberal and lots of crime. Much less liberal than most west coast cities of it's size. I know that's not saying much...

That's like saying Fort Worth is becoming Dallas west. Sadly some truth to it, but people are fighting It.
