I bought one because it was available in the .450 Bushmaster and in Ohio, a better option than a slug gun or muzzle loader. Bolt handle lift was a little stiff for my liking, the L.O.P. a little long, the comb way too low, trigger a skosh too heavy, and blueing is too prone to rust. It was darned accurate, and I'm not thrilled about the brake, but I fixed everything except the brake. Factory rotary magazine has never given me a problem, but then it's a 3 shot for the .450

Honest question.

My daughter has a Savage Axis in 243 my dad won at a raffle they both attended.
Neither of us is a 243 fan, lots of experience with them, and would like a different
chamberings.

Should I ditch the Savage for a RAR, or get another Axis, so it's "The gun" she and Pap won?

Never knew anyone that actually kept one and shot it.

Usually darryl and gerald buy them for $200 at rural king on clearance and try to sell them to fools on tndeer.com for $500

I am a recovering gun snob.

Life gets easier when you realize that the only thing hitting that target is a bullet. It makes absolutely no difference how it gets there, as long as it does.

Those Ruger Americans get the job done.

I think the RAR is a better cheap rifle than the Axis. Can't imagine not digging a 243 though.

They are fairly easy to re-barrel on your own. If you want to keep it "their" rifle, try another short action caliber. 7mm-08?

An older buddy of mine got one in 7-08 for his annual elk hunt. He needed something with less recoil than his 30-06, well heck, he's past 80 years old now. I helped him sight it in, and DANG it was accurate...

Another buddy needs a coyote rifle and has only a 22 rimfire. Wants something else. I cheerfully steered him towards a 223 Ruger American. Danged things work, they're accurate, and ya don't have to spend much.

I picked up the Ruger Precision Rifle in 6mm Creedmoor last winter. Goodness! That ugly chunk of iron is accurate...

Have they solved the problem of cartridges getting hung up in the mags and not coming to the top? With my '06, they sent me 3 new mags before I got one that fed reliably. I know a couple others with the same mag problems with their RAR's.

I’ve got a LH 7-08 and 6.5cm. I know LH has nothing to do with the mag. But zero problems.

I have a 6.5cm in the Ruger American Predator and it's extremely accurate with handloads. It hasn't shot anything that was larger than an inch group with factory loads. I replaced the rotary mag with the 450 bushmaster mag and it works great.

The ultimate pragmatist could do a hell of a lot worse than have Americans in 223, 6.5 & 30.

Add an American in 22LR, a Hawkeye 22, an 870 & a Glock. Call it quits.

Then take the rest of your money & pay off the house sooner than usual, or bulk up the 401K.

Sounds gun boring, but it would work as a battery & could serve WELL.

I had a 6.5 Creed Predator was accurate and killed a nice blacktail stag with it but it was just meh so I tripped it.

Then picked up a 300BO Ranch model with the rotary mag. I need to toss the one bad mag before it gets in the rotation again.

It gets schidt done around the homestead.

Picked up a 5.56 Ranch with the AR mag and it's a tack-driver. Almost as good as my Tikka.
