So which one is more useful and why? Scope Tru or Kokopelli Alignment Bars?

I 've used the Brownells alignment rods for years. Seem to work fine.

I've never used either, sorry.

For mounting rings on a Redfield or Leupold type base with a twist in front ring, I much prefer a solid 1 piece stainless round bar.

The rings are aligned to the bar before I start so it's easy.

If I'm mounting to an older military Mauser that was milled and drilled less than perfect, it shows up quickly when trying to twist in the front ring.

If the rings are off and will mar or kink a scope, I use Burris Signature rings with plastic inserts to compensate and keep the scope body undamaged.

Good luck!

Buckman,

I prefer the Scope Tru bar to the Kokopelli, because of its length, providing a far better idea of how the rings line up not just with each other but the barrel.

I got some 1" round aluminum stock that was a true 1" diameter., +/- 0.001 or so. Using a lathe, I faced the ends flat on two pieces. One piece in each ring with the flats only 0.010" (ten one thousandths) or so apart will tell you pretty quick how well your rings line up. If not good, there are a number of corrective actions, or the Burris Signature rings solve a lot of problems with ring alignment and with scope tube to barrel alignment. I have not used any commercial alignment bars, so I cannot help you there.

I use steel Talley’s. No alignment needed.
