Heinrich Hoffmann was a photographer who became acquainted with Hitler before he was seriously in politics. Their common interests in art led to a close personal friendship. Hoffmann was not political or military and had, therefore, a relationship mostly untainted by the normal court machinations. Except for Bormann, who tried to control everything and everyone around Hitler and who became indispensable to Hitler. Hitler is shown as a man with compassion. But who expected all of the laws to be rigidly followed. What was going on with the Jews under Nazi control is only alluded to once, and that by a relative of Hoffmann's at a social gathering. That woman and her husband quickly left that gathering.

Such was the nature of the Hoffmann-Hitler friendship.

This book is well worth reading by anyone interested in the European area of World War 2, just for the sake of knowledge.
