MSN has another poll that I found interesting. It concerns social security.

While not dependent on Social Security I sure as hell want my share back. After paying into that sinkhole for 40 years I am not going to just let it go away.

I don't want any of it; it needs to die, but it won't.

Somebody needs to pay for her 15 kids, lets start a go fund the .......... with 15 kids go fund me page. We can start collecting money for her on the campfire. How much could we collect to help her out??

Out of our 4 trillion federal budget, only 3 trillion is funded. That's means we borrow 25%

1.3 trillion is SS and Medicare
1 trillion goes to wellfare, food stamps, section 8 housing, etc.
700 billion on defense
250 billion interest payments


Getting rid of welfare would fix our budget.

Needing SS is subjective. In my opinion, anyone including Bill Gates has been paying into SS for decades, he is entitled to the benefits as well. It's not my place to decide if he needs it or not. The rules apply to everyone equally.

The prevailing notion is to print more money....SS will fail at the same time the currency is worthless. There is no "conservative" when socialist policy is in question.
There are those who want their money that isn't there and they are in the same camp as those who wish to kick the can until everything is worthless.

Besides, no politician will be on watch to witness Social Security failing....

SSI is simply an insurance policy no different than car insurance. Everyone pays, some never collect, some collect a lot more than they paid in. In theory there isn't anything wrong with it, but major changes should have been made 30-40 years ago. But no politician has the guts to do what is right. An insurance company can't stay in business charging 1940's insurance rates and paying out in 2019 money. Relatively small increases done 30 years ago along with small reductions in benefits would have made a huge difference in the program today. The program can still work, but the longer politicians wait to do the right thing the bigger the rate increases will need to be and the deeper the cuts in benefits.

And I believe people should have the ability to opt out, or at least have options for different levels of benefits and payments. It can be there for those who want it, those who don't can sign up for more limited benefits at reduced prices or not pay in at all.

I'll be 62 in Feb and will start collecting then. Unless something terribly wrong happens it should be around for the rest of my life. My kids will almost surely see reduced benefits and probably higher rates before they are old enough to retire.

I'll dang sure try to get mine back, especially for the many years I was paying 'both sides' of it at 15% being self employed.

That and that fuggin 'medicare tax' too.
