The 99's, yeah of course. The rest of them not so much.

I tried a couple times to warm up to a Stevens Visible (Miserable) Loader. Now I run in the opposite direction from them.

I'd be thrilled to get a couple of brand new model 19 NRA's.

I hear you! These are usually found very well used with shot out barrels since they worked so well for so long - on a lot of gun designs something would go wrong long before they had a chance to get worn out, not so with these. Try to find an early case hardened one with any finish left. When Savage bought Stevens in 1920 this is one of the models they decided to continue even though they had 22 pumps of their own. They even improving it in 1931 but that coincided with the introduction of Hi-Speed 22 loadings and these just could not handle it so they finally discontinued it about 1933~1934.

the version made from about 1931 to late 1933, note it states "regular cartridges" since it would not handle the new Hi-Speed loadings.

There was a version of the Visible Loader just marked "RANGER REPEATING RIFLE" sold by Sears, it we only cataloged one years with Ranger marked versions of the Model 25 pump showing up the next year.

Stevens considered them the best frog rifle going...

… or if you preferred to eat something that tasted more like chicken than frog legs, they would work for that too.

Cool catalog, by 1967 I was sporting goods manager for Sears and some of these were still passing through my hands.

That takedown would be $823 in today’s dollars.

The 22HP would be $747.

The solid frame would be $655.

That isn’t cheap.

The bottom 22 would be $84.

Hi Tommygun , My mom worked for Sears from 1966 to 1988 or so . A great store ! I'm sorry to not be able to shop there since they shut down up here completely.
The visible loader is my favourite Savage .22 .Can you imagine another .22 today that comes anywhere close in quality lines and workmanship ? The key to it's operation is how the cammed toggle completely disingages the pump action from working while in battery. It was designed by Redding I think , who likely was a mechanical engineer.

Like your mom, I also started with Sears in 1966, and retired in 1998. While I went on to other positions I never had so much fun as I did in sporting goods. A kid in a candy store! The visible loader was pretty much fazed out by the time I got there but not completely. Sears then contracted with all the major firearm co’s and it was my job to order any gun I thought I could sell. So many that are sought after now, I could write a book!

The prices are $3 over the MSRP prices from 1922. The prices Savage gave out on the price lists were the minimum amount that any firearm dealer could sell Savage firearms at, Savage didn't care if you jacked the prices up more.

And then Congress passed the “Fair Trade Act”, and once again the govt. was in control.
