My grandmother collects everything. She filled her basement so she built a barn. Its something to see a 90 year old woman climbing on her "treasures". She is also filthy rich. She talks about taking $5 out of each paycheck back in the 1940s and buying "C of D's" in her words. That took discipline. She gets ANGRY when she hears her kids talk about going to those evil casinos.

Lots and lots of stuff from my father's side... the cookie jar my grandfather bought for my grandmother when my father was born in '32. Also arrowheads he found in his farm fields and some of his huge marble collection.

My grandfather's grandfather clock which his four children got him for his 40th anniversary, so not that old. I guess it will be 50 here soon.

When I graduated high school, My grandmother gave me my deceased grandfather's gold watch. It was just an everyday Hamilton that he wore on Sundays to church. I kept it safe and wore it when I got married and to my father's funeral. I finally passed it on to my nephew when he graduated high school. Told him everything I knew about his grandfather and as much as I could about his great grandfather.

Sorry to hear that about your father and grandfather. Not the way God intended it to happen.

I have an old English Bulldog revolver and a pocket watch from my paternal grand dad.

I have my Grandpop's pocket watch - his high school graduation gift, class of 1918. Also, before he passed, he gave me a scrapbook he had put together of his son who was killed bailing out of a burning B-17 on 01/20/1945. Mostly photos, but also contains the Western Union telegram of his death, letters from the surviving crewmen, and his battered and discolored dogtags, which I cherish. I get choked up every time I hold them.

My father's father was a blacksmith. He was also a drinker, a fighter, and a child beater. He was a real SOB. Dad left home the day after he graduated from high school and didn't go home for more than 10 years. All I have from that grandfather is an anvil. During the depression, Dad spent several years riding the rails along with thousands of other men, going wherever there were rumors of work to be found. He did about every job imaginable during that time. He ended up in Idaho where he met Mom.
On Mom's side, they lost everything in the depression. They had a barn full of good crops that they couldn't sell for cash because there was no money. It was all barter. They lost the farm because they couldn't sell their crops for $200 cash for the mortgage. I have a nice vanity from Grandma. Grandma's sister married well and I have a number of nice furniture pieces from her.

I have a pre-tourist trade Navajo rug from the early 1900’s. Great great grandad collected native items while traveling around the southwest when he worked as a doctor in Las Vegas NM. Also have a couple of handmade baskets from the same time.

I have his 12' johnboat, and Johnson 6hp motor complete with registration card from 1968. Have pictures of him 'n me fishing at lake Geode in IA when I was knee high to a grasshopper. Prize possessions. Also his canvas field hunting jacket which looks a lot like a chore coat. Anyway, lots of memories there.

Great great grandpa ran Consolidated Aircraft during WWII for a salary of $1/year. They made B-24s out there in CA. He hated FDR but when asked, he obliged out of love for his country. The guys at consolidated asked him if there was anything he wanted since things were scarce during the war. The Girdlers were bourbon drinkers and the company got him a case of bourbon from the Brown-Foreman distillery with personalized labels. Dad has half a bottle of it left and is buying a boat with some of the remaining family money and we're going to go out on the boat, drink the rest of the bourbon and spread Tommy's (my great uncle, GG grandfather's grandson) ashes on the lake. Just like he'd want. I have some other things of Tommy's, including 2 rifles, some trinkets, slide rule, and pics from Africa when he went of safari with my great grandfather in the 60's.

And on my desk as I type this is a wooden B-24D Liberator model that sat on GG grandfather's desk during the war. I was in Janesville last weekend for the Warbird Weekend and got up close with a B-24. That was neat.

I have some of my grandfather's pocket knives from the other side of the family.

I have a number of things that they had. My most cherished thing is my Granny's Bible. It's so worn that it's falling apart, but she knew every word that was in it. I also have a note that she wrote me when she was dying, and the Bible verse that's written on it.

I have my grandfathers little 410 shotgun that he bought because his 12 gauge was too heavy to tote around everywhere, and some wood carvings me made. I also have the rocking horse that he made me for my first Christmas.

Also, I am still living on and farming the same land that he was born on and farmed. My grandchildren are the seventh generation to grow up here.

That is Grandpa's M70 30-06. He gave it to me before he died and I have treasured it (and used it) for nearly 40 years now.

I have my grandfather's Model 12 which one belonged to his much older brother-in-law, Uncle Ernest. I also have his last wallet with the photos and cards he carried around. He was the cornerstone of my life and I still miss him terribly after 26 years.

On Dad's side - I have vivid memories of a pail of water, with a 4 foot 1"x2" pine board resting in it, that we had to walk past, every time we got dropped of !!

I have nothing from my grandpa, I hope to leave my grandkids some guns, but they don’t shoot. I’m thinking about making a cedarstrip canoe for each family. 3

As my Dad gets older, he's almost 80 now, he gives me a few things every so often. I have my Grandpa's old Craftsman table saw and his heavy timber workbench that he had in his shop. My Dad also just gave me Grandpa's saw sharpening vice and I'm going to try my hand at sharpening hand saws with it. Dad gave my kids some of Grandpa's little doodads as well. Nothing much to speak of, but things like safety razors, a broken pocket watch, cigar boxes, etc. On my mother's side, I have my Grandpa's bamboo flyrod that he made himself and a Bowler hat. My Grandma left me some antique furniture as well as some framed pictures of our old hometown. Lastly, she gave me a painting that hung in her house for close to 50 years that I remember as a young boy. It's a simple painting of a doe deer and fawn at a small pond surrounded by mountains. Before she died, I asked my Grandma about that painting. She actually wrote the story down for me that I attached to the back of the painting. A family friend painted it for my Grandpa and she finished it when he was in the hospital right before he died. My Grandma asked him what he wanted her to do with it and he told her where to hang it up in their house. So she did and she never moved that painting until she moved out of their house. Now it is hanging in my house, in a similar location to where they had it, and I hope to give it to one of my kids someday. My Dad also has a M12 shotgun that was Grandpa's so maybe I'll end up with that someday as well.
