Looking for opinions on aftermarket stocks for a remington 700. I just had a long action rebarreled to a 6.5-284 and was planning to use the factory SPS stock. the barrel contour was supposed to match the factory one but it came back a little larger (which is fine) and wouldn't fit the channel in that stock. I sanded a little bit out of the channel to allow it to fit and free float, but now when the weight of the rifle is on the forearm, the stock flexes and touches the barrel.
I would like to replace that stock with one that will be better and allow for free floating and using a rest without diminishing accuracy.
I know thee are several options out there and im sure everyone here will yell mcmillan, but I really cant afford to drop 500+ on a stock right now. What are opinions on the hogue overmolded? Magpul hunter 700? and maybe others I dont know about.

What about one of the Grayboe stocks? Pretty close to the same prices as the others and the few I’ve handled have been pretty decent.

Bell and Carlson would be another to look into. Also keep an eye out for a used stock. Could put a WTB ad in the classifieds also.

I'd buy a beat up Rem 700 wood stock, bed the lug, float the barrel and keep saving for a McMillan. Got a rig I am shooting at present while McMillan arrives this week. Shooting fantastic in the factory wood stock.

Plenty of options:
1) Post a WTB ad here on the 'Fire Classifieds. I've got a project stock I would ship to you for the cost of shipping. Except it is short action. Never know what folks might have in a corner. 2) Peruse some of the other hunting websites. 3) Take a look on eBay. There are couple of the older, relatively stiff, Remington factory synthetic stocks (Rynite?) in the $13 to $30 dollar range at the moment. A McMillan thumbhole stock at $130.
And, Good Luck With Your Search...

Shooting fantastic in the factory wood stock. This is what I’d do. Another option would be M-Cubed which I believe is a lower price point option from McMillan. I’ve got no experience with them though Edited to add link: https://mc3stocks.com/product-category/hunting/long-action-hunting/

You might ck out AG composites . I have one for a short action build I will use someday. It weighs 26 oz. As for as ergos it feels like a Nula stock. I could be wrong but I think they make the stock for the Fieldcraft. They have other designs also , but no where near as many as McMillan.

Grayboe is a McMillan relative and they know how to make a stock. Their stocks are excellent and you can order custom finishes direct or save money on a holiday sale from Redhawkrifles.com
How do you know a Trump hater? They'll tell you.
