Kicked me out twice .I had little hope of getting one of the three tags left I wanted anyway. It still irks me though that with all the money CPW is making, we get those leftover sales screwed up every year

They're gonna be in some nice new trucks this fall checking licenses though.

Not sure they could make all of you happy.... regardless of the amount of money they make. Make sure you stomp your feet really loud, and slam every door today.... maybe they’ll notice all the tantrums and make some changes.

No system can handle the simultaneous logging in, and attempted purchases, by thousands of people.... sorry.

How should they do it better?

Picked up another cow taf, 4th Rifle. Plans to hunt 3rd and 4th Rifle down the drain, but now I have two cow tags for 4th. Daughter and her hubby have cow and bull tags for 4th.

Hey Dogshooter how about you go [bleep] yourself.

Saddlesore, how many years has it been that licenses have been screwed up? They bring in a ton of money and still cant get this right. Its incredibly frustrating.

What do you mean by “get it right”?

No system can handle the amount of simultaneous login/purchase attempts that the CPW site sees at 9:00 on leftover day...

Should they have a leftover leftover draw.... then a leftover leftover leftover draw.... until all the tags are taken?

Should they have a lottery for leftover position?

Alphabetical order?

Chronological order by purchaser age?

“Dibs!!”

What should they do? Even though the system crashes, and/or it has glitches.... at least it does it to everyone.

This would be very simple to remedy..... only in-person sales at DOW offices for the first day. Only in-person sales at any licensed vendor on the second day. Then open it up to internet sales on the third day. That wouldn’t crash the system.... and it would still give most of y’all something to bitch and moan about.... win/win!!

I gave it a try. Waited till about ten seconds past 9 and got in. Still had to wait 6 or 7 minutes to try for something. There were only 3 tags left and I missed out. Meh, no biggie.

IIRC, there were over 30K elk tags left over. It would take a monster system to handle that volume quickly. It would only be used for a few minutes out of a year. No complaints from me.

Probably 8-10. I can only remember once that the system didn't choke within the 1st 5 minutes

No,you go find a software company that can do the job. If CPW is doing it in house, they need to get people ,hardware ,and software to do the job. .There are companies out there that handle millions of pieces of data at once so handling it isn't something tha tcan't be done.

No matter how many complaints CPW gets and how many times they screw up you guys just say it's OK and just keep sending them more money.

The problem today was that silly "You are in line and will get notified when you are up". Then you wait 10-15 minutes and the system times out and you start the whole process over, and repeat 2-3 times

I wasn't particularly interested in getting another tag, only frustrated with the system not working as usual. Maybe you are not that interested in how the system works or doesn't work, but there are thousands of hunters out there that pay for a service and they expect it to perform. Your damn right we bitch .Part of the license cost is suppose to cover admin fees to sell tags.

So everyone should be able to log on simultaneously, and get whatever they want.... no matter what it costs to make that happen?

That’s just dumb...

By the time you get to the leftovers.... you’ve already exhausted about 5-6 other options: your FOUR choices on your primary app..... then your first and second choices in the leftover draw. Why should the state spend more money on a better system.... to make it easier for you to buy your SEVENTH choice tag?

Or....

You’re trying to pick up a second tag.... again.... why spend more money to make that convenient for you? If it takes 1/2 hour.... so what?

Or....

You’re trying.... along with 2500 other guys... to snatch-up that one Unit 44 Third Season buck tag that some fool turned back in (or didn’t pay for). Again.... there’s going to be 2499 guys bitching about not getting it.... regardless of the “system”.

Or....

You didn’t get your app in on time.... but you still want to hunt with your buddies that did.... and you’re hoping to grab one of those 11 tags left in that unit..... along with 347 other dudes.

Look.... it’s the leftovers of the leftovers man.... you get what you get. Don’t like the “system”.... don’t play the game... and do a better job on your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choices in the primary draw. Or buy an OTC tag.... or go to Utah... or whatever.

They should spend ZERO dollars to make this system “better”... and folks should just know that the leftovers are a schitt-show.

I just put in for the tag I want in the draw. I also check the box that asks if I want to participate in the leftover draw that happens before today. And...I got a b list tag today so I can hunt elk twice.

Well I can tell you that they aren’t using any of the increased revenue to make a better system. I went down with my father in law today to get him another annual non-res fishing license. His license that he buys every year went from fifty something dollars to ninety something dollars, up 80% in price, my extra rod stamp doubled from $5 to $10, the guy behind the counter was saying something about an increase of almost 100% in price for resident over the counter elk because of what you are required to purchase in conjunction to the tag.

I kinda wish they would give the guys who put in for a unit and payed their money for the BS small game license they won’t use the first shot at the leftover tags in that unit. Kinda sucks to think, like our case, a party of 8 guys put in for buck tags in a unit that we usually draw at least a couple out of and get none but then there’s leftover tags for that unit. Of course then the 1min wait on the CPW site is actually 13mins or the whole thing crashes and you have to start over.

But hey maybe someone who was in the same situation as I was ended up getting a tag they had applied for and didn’t get. I’m sure that at least a couple of us will still buy bull tags and maybe even kill some bulls. I’m also sure I’ll probably see some nice bucks, like I have the 23 shooters the past 3 years of not having a buck tag and also not seeing any deer hunters. Oh well.

That is your opinion and I find there are a lot of others that have different opinions.Your's is not the last word .I believe, like others, we should expect more out of CPW and not have to put up with the same crap year after year. They need to spend money on getting a better system because they sure as hell are not spending it on sound big game management .They have problems on the first draw just as well. Licenses going to the wrong address, licenses not going out, payments screwed up by the billing company to name a few, so it is not just the Left Over sales

Yes. I am trying to pick up a 2nd tag . I don't have many hunts left in me and I value each year that I can do two hunts. Maybe you don't have to worry about that,or maybe you have access to private land, or your own, or an outfitter that has land leased and your tags come easy. You make a lot of assumptions that don't ring true for a lot of people.
