You might want to think about doing your Idaho Deer hunting in my back yard this year.

Just caught this guy about 50' from my back door.

The irony is he's standing right about in the middle of my little pistol range.

I love the look on his face in the first picture. 👍

Damn whitetails....real men hunt Odocoileus Hemionus (Sitkensis & Columbianus). 😁

Fieldgrade, What elevation are you at? I’ve watched the whitetails encroach on the mule deer over the past couple decades and they have successfully integrated themselves into elevations and environments they didn’t historically inhabit. I shot a 5x5 (10pt 😂) whitetail 20+ years ago in an area that NEVER held whitetails. The bachelor group surprised me since I was on the tail of 6x7 mulie. When I got to the bar for a couple cold ones I was BS’ing with some old timers about the whitetail I’d shot and where I’d shot it at, they swore that I was lying about where I’d taken it but they knew me and knew that I had no reason to lie. I was literally hunting both Mule Deer and Whitetails in the same patch of mid elevation sagebrush. I was apparently the first one to see whitetails up there and definitely the first to kill one where I did. I knew a couple of biologists back then and one of them was a hunting partner of mine so I took him up there and we counted 9 bucks in 2 groups. Didn’t see any does and none of the WT bucks were smaller than a 4x4 with a couple of damn fine bucks in the mix. Now that area is covered up in whitetails and you gotta go up higher to find the mulies. Do you get both on your place?

I'm only about 700' elevation but I'm almost at the bottom of a very steep river drainage.

A short walk/climb behind my house will gain ya a 1000' pretty quick.

I don't have any Mullies right here but they intermingle with the Whitetail all up and down this drainage.
I see em right across the river all the time.

Had a couple of more show up today. This is in my dog yard about 100' form my front deck.

My little 4X point and shoot doesn't zoom in for chit but I think you get the picture.

This is the biggest buck I've had at the place since I bought it 15 years ago.

There's three wild apple trees just to the right of that pic and I have a couple of wild Plumbs just below where my BBQ sets.

The Deer really like the wild Plumbs but neither the Plumbs or Apples will be dropping for awhile.

They seem to be happy eating dog chit though. smile
