Seems like a good all-around shooting and hunting round, anyone have experience? Looks like a good idea, a short action 7mm that’s capable of shooting heavier bullets at reasonable speeds. I wouldn’t mind one with ~160gr bullets out of a 22” tube; 2700+ FPS seems to be a very achievable number.

I saw a picture of one the other day - side by side with a 6.5 CM and the 7mm-08.

While I don’t know the full story on it, it sure looks like an Ackley version of the 7-08....

Google it - those Texans sure seem to like it.....

I’m heading a similar direction. I want to cruise the 195EOL at 2650 out of a SA with a DBM.

Maybe 7SST or a 7-6.5 PRC or a shortened an improved 7WSM.

I think we just don't have enough 7mm cartridges. Last count there were somewhere around 80 but I am sure I missed a few. Bring them on the 7mm is my favorite caliber.

As MD stated it goes well with 7 & 7 and it is a lucky number.

I ran the numbers on this, it does very well. Kicks the crap out of lots of others.

Will it fit in a SA DBM seated long?

I’d love to see the numbers.

std 7/08 will be hard to beat, and the numbers on the 195 will not catch the numbers on the 180, you need to check yourself on that calculation.

The 7/08 AI down in Australia shooting F class are very popular with 180's, 2750 fps in long barrels.

Not having to screw around fire forming to the AI is preferred by most.

I am going palma brass and push the pressures with an 7/08 AI, probably get another 100 fps, which is not a big pay off for the trouble.

Kinda what I thought when I saw it, but apparently the 7mm SAW doesn’t need to be fireformed. I had a 7-08 and liked it, but ended up selling it to a friend who was looking for his first deer rifle. If I’m going to get another 7mm gun, I want something short action that will handle 160gr projectiles. The 7mm-08 seems to lose to much case capacity when you get up above 140gr bullets. The 284 supposedly handles 160s fine, but I’ve heard a lot of bad about the 284 cycling.

Bumping this thread....Anyone have new info?

Alpha Munitions is making brass in 7 SAW for West Texas Ordinance. Their brass is top notch. Makes this cartridge even more appealing.

I agree that the 7mm SAW looks a lot like a 7-08 AI, so what's the real difference, if any?

Basically same concept as the SLRs. Push the shoulder back and down.

Did a 6.5x280AI which is the other cartridge West Texas pushes. If I remember the 7mm has a 30 deg shoulder and small rifle primer.

Anyone running a 7mm SAW?

I am a huge fan of the 7mm-08 but like the idea of pushing 160-170 grain bullets faster than the standard cartridge will. I'm thinking about a fast twist 24" 7mm SAW barrel for deer and similar (no elk) using AI mags.

Might go Switch Lug by WTO and have another barrel of another flavor added such as .308 or .338 Fed for >deer opportunities.

284 Winchester or 7 SAUM would be much more simple.
