Hell yeah, bet on the cops-- they have the swat trucks, tanks, missles and such--- doubtful a yard full of somali-like local community members toting ak-47 target rifles will suddenly surround the police. the police represents the us, and as such they have full power and rights to subdue anyone who isn't kosher.

the problem we have, if we have one at all, that the gun-toters are willing to wreck the lives of the drug dealers and druggies.
the rest of the scenario relates to the general public who are more than willing to wreck the lives of gun-toters.
and the national news media is making hay. they are looking for viewership. it means money in the bank.
