For those who enjoy Colt 1911 porn.

Just bought 2 NIB unfired Colt Series 70 Mark IV 1911's this morning. They are both pristine, still in the plastic bag wrapper with the oil from the factory still on them. The slide to frame fit and triggers on both are superb. From the days when everything was still hand fitted.

Localdirt: I am an extreme novice when it comes to 1911's but I know those are "dandies"!
Good for you and my interest is piqued, as to where/how you came about them (friend/gunshop/want ad/pawn shop etc)?
Not exactly where - just generally if you do not mind.
Again good for you.

Back in what day? 2003? They still make S70’s today. I believe the gun pictured is a newly manufactured one.

I don't even like 1911's but that pic made me go, "ooooh, ahhhh". Finding time capsules like that is one of the best things there is. Great snag.

You are extremely fortunate to run into two of those at one time. I haven't run into one in years. I'd be interested in hearing the story as well. I'm thinking you might not have that good a day 5 more times in your life. At least that's my luck.

Once again, they aren’t original Series 70’s from the 1970’s. Colt has been making new Series 70’s for a decade. That’s not a bad thing, as today’s Series 70’s are typically better made than the originals. They are very, very nice guns but they are not a time capsule from the past. They are new production.

I think these newer production Colt "Model O" guns like these are as good or better than the original 70s guns. I have had two similar Gold Cups and let the first get away. The second I had $300 of custom work including bobbing the hammer a little so I don't get blood blisters on the web of my hand and fitting a new bushings. It turned out so nice that I sold my Ed Brown Custom Classic.

I stand corrected. These are Model 0 guns. Not time capsules. However, as DesertMuleDeer mentioned, these are superb guns. What I said about the slide to frame fit and triggers stands. I plan on sending one of these away to one of the top 1911 guys to turn into something exquisite. The other one I will rathole.

VarmintGuy, I got these at an LGS / pawn shop that I go in frequently. I have developed friendships there over a long period of time and I am often the first to get a shot at the good stuff because of that.

Correct. Those are new production. If they were original Series 70's, they sure wouldn't be in plastic boxes with cable locks. I wonder how much he paid for them?

Laughing.

If I paid $3000/ea for them, I'd still be way ahead of the game.

But you carry on, now.

Do they have collet bushings?

Local dirt: Thank you for the comeback and information - "dedicated" customers to LGS's (like you!) deserve a "first chance at" as far as I am concerned!
Again thanks and good on you!

Reading comprehension ain’t your strong suits...Before your post, clearly LD realized he owns two newer 1911’s.

Aside, from the initial dating of the pistols, from the picture, the 1911 appears to be a fine example of quality and craftsmanship...Knowing LD, and his relationship with individuals he does business with when acquiring his firearms...I’m sure he purchased both for a price point that would empty pockets fast if we could secure such deals like he finds...

Sending off one for some custom work won’t inflict remorse on a “0” model. Shît, I wish I could locate a couple of these in same as new condition to have one refined into a shooters work of art...

Good find LD....Don’t forget to post pictures once you get the custom work done...😎
