Yeah I know Randy. He’s a long range show off isn’t he? LOL!

Really I have found no problems with wildlife here. Other than fireants and the occassional termite. But the fire ants consider them filet mignon! We get everything thru here on occassion.

When we lived on the nation West of Tucson my grandfather from Oklahoma came to visit. He saw a roadrunner and ask what it was. My dad it called it a bird of paradise. My grandfather said it was a long damn way from home.

Was it one or two roadrunners that took on the rattler?

Can they fly?
I watched one fly off the shoulder of the road-straight toward a high fence made with 6" hog wire.
I was sure he was going to hit the fence when he tucked himself and went through one of the 6" squares.
Don't think that was his first rodeo.

I gained a whole new respect for them after watching one kill a 3' rattler.

We had one that learned to hang out whenever we were cleaning a deer or hog.
We always flipped her pieces of meat and she would come within 6' of us.
If we ignored her she would make a cooing sound, sort of like a mourning dove.
They are a lot more vocal than you would think.

They are in the Cockoo family. There are Greater and Lesser varieties. Yes they do make various sounds and fly often around here. They are on our roofs a lot.

We have hummers at the feeders on the front porch. There is also a pair of road runners the live on my rifle range, 100 yards off the yard. The road runners get a free pass, as they are certified snake killers. I haven't seen a snake of any kind here since the road runners moved in.

I used to see them at the truck stops in Laredo. I didn't know they kill hummingbirds.

The pair here are quick death on lizards and once in a while one of them will get a snake (one rattler since we've been here) - but they seem to go easy the quail family (two broods so far this summer). The one time I saw onc dashing in on some scurrying baby quail, the mom and dad quail were dive bombing the RR and it quit the chase.

Your not .

There pretty scarce in North, though some summers it seems the mosquitos are that big.
