Anyone else harvesting, eating or enjoying some cantaloupe ? I grow Ambrosia variety. Have picked 20 in the last 2 weeks. Eat one every day. Haven't had much luck with them for the last 4 years because of the wet summers. This year the weather was more cooperative. Also have 3 nice Crimsom Sweet watermelons that should be ready in a few weeks.

Love them. I bought one last week, cut it up and put it in the fridge. The next day I came in to grab some and the empty container was sitting on the table. The 8 year old wiped it out for breakfast.

The melons are good, I'm trying to get the wife to downsize the garden, so we can get more time up north.

Can't get any decent ones around here. The imports are picked so early they never get ripe. local varieties are good when you can find them.

we have a few honeydews ripe now but the cantaloupe are a ways away. They're netted but very green. We had a cold spring that really slowed them down. We eat them like candy.

Not totally true. A lot of different varieties have been bred from the old original muskmelon. Cantaloupe is just one of them. The muskmelon is just the parent variety.

I eat the hell out of it ..picking the rite one at the store is a challenge at times..i grab the whole thing a see if i can press my finger tips in the flesh, then i press in where the stem was looking for it to be a bit soft, then i look for where it layed on the ground, in the cart it goes ...i run about 80% good ...20% not sweet an/or kinda crunchy.....

Love 'em but they're high in potassium, which takes them off my diet.

I was a light shake of salt guy, but they're surprisingly good with a shake of Tajin, too.

Couldn't find any ripe enough to buy in Henderson this year.
Visiting my mom in SLC now and will be taking some home. They also have real vine ripened tomatoes at the grocery so those will go too.
One thing I miss about Utah is the great produce.

Love them chilled and topped with a sprinkle of black pepper. Or rake the seeds out and refill the cavity with vanilla ice cream.

Tuscan they have in the store for more money are good. Most of the stuff is too green to ever ripen right, it needs to make sugar while on the vine. Rocky Ford is the deal around here, but they are not always good either.
Used to have a market that had varieties I had never seen, way more than Crenshaw and honeydew. Alas they went belly up
I paid extra for a big dark green watermelon at natural grocers, haven't cut it yet but was told they are extra good. I would love to get one of those big old seed filled things like 60 years ago we got up around longmont, or at the japs

The potassium is the best part. It helps to negate excessive sodium.

Theyre a buck each at the Aldi.

The mennonistas have the jumbos for $2 each

Luckily I live close to the cantaloupe capitol of the US. Rocky Ford CO melons are some of the best

Them what dontaloupe are always happier than thems that do. It isn't alway a "can" or "cant " kinda deal.
