Had poor success with the 180 ELD-M on a few critters and moved on from those. What problems did you have with the 180s? I've been loading them in my 28 nosler and 280 ai and I've been looking for a 7-08 fieldcraft to shoot them with too. They shoot great from my 28 at 3200 fps over rl 33. I have yet to use them on game. Bb They are soft as hell on game. ? Do you have any carbon build up with RL33 in your 28 nosler. I tried the exact same thing you are and did not have good luck.

Fred,
How many animals have you shot with the 180βs so far? My experience with them is that they penetrate quite well, but that is limited to a frontal shot on one fairly large bull moose, so far.

A white tail deer at 120 yards caught the shoulder just a little no bone and bullet never exited 7wsm. Frontal on a bear 400βish no exit and a giant pile of goo 28 nosler. Iβm not one bit against a mess but I feel the Berger is a little tougher.

I put this elk on pack boards and never found a bullet. But I did find a chunk of jacket at the exit.

Iβm really happy with the 156 at 3020fps Iβm at odds between it and the 143 eldx as they shoot the best out of my rifle and Iβm gonna go kill antelope in a couple weeks.

I'll take a 6.5 Swede,160 gr RN or a 6.5X54. Be Well. Rusty

I had to order some in just to look them over. They would be way slow in my 6.5 CMβs. I roasted my 6.5 Badger (6.5-.338 Ultra Improved) Barrel. So I would have to rebarrel before I can play with them. I did get my rings, base and sling (Andyβs leather) in for my 6.5 CM Fieldcraft . So I have something to tinker with. 6.5 Grendel/123gr ELD-M (Left) Berger 6.5 156gr (Right)

Mine shoots them extremely well for a little bit and then goes to hell until I clean it well with Boretech. I'm going to work on a different load as soon as I get feeling well enough to get back out. It has shot multiple sub .25" groups and then it goes to 1.5. I thought I was having scope issues and changed scopes to same thing. I would rather have a consistant 1/2" gun than than one that's inconsistent. Mine is just a Christensen ELR so I thought maybe the barrel just fouls easily but after what you said I'll try some different powder. Maybe retumbo. Bb

Burley RL33 is a dirty powder for sure. Carbon build up is a problem in the 28 with it also. Normally around 50 shots I scrub the neck/throat and push a few patches through and all is well. Retumbo shouldnβt be as bad but less velocity. N570 if you can find it is the powder to use in the 28.

At what point is super-long, too-long? It seems like it is really pushing it, with these. There is a point of diminishing returns.

I haven't "agreed" with anyone, just a common sense question, why give up velocity and bc outta the gate when building a long range rig? 2 of the easiest things a guy can control. Hard to believe Jud and Stick agree on something but this is the most sensible thing said on this site for a while..... As long as on game performance and accuracy isn't suffering, why give up ballistic performance just to experiment for kicks and giggles....? Bob

My gap and 6.5x284 donβt eat the 147 as well as the 143 eldx or the 156. The gap doesnβt care for the Atip 135 either. But the wssm is near and Iβm hopeful that it likes them and will push them to 3100.

No, haven't shot it in 5 years, or loaded for it 7 or so, scopes getting ready to get stripped off and it's gonna find a new home.

I just got some loaded ammo from Copper Creek for my 6.5 GAP, supposed to be 2930 fps and a BC of .679, I haven't shot them yet.
