This book is the third in Scott's series about law enforcement, drugs, corruption, and such in the Big Bend country of Texas. The author notes that if you shared a couple of beers with him you might come away with the idea that he is a bit jaded or cynical after spending nearly a decade wearing a DEA badge in the Big Bend country. He says that you wouldn't be wrong.

This is a pretty dark novel. Drugs, murders, corruption and the cold bloodedness of the cartels are all in this book.

Two cartels are fighting over smuggling routes into the lucrative US market. Treason in one of the cartels- the Nemesios- has led to the murder of multiple innocent students. The world is outraged. The Mexican government is outraged and embarrassed. And people elsewhere begin to die.

It all comes to a head in Murfee, Texas.

The book is in part based on the murder of students in Iguala, Mexico in 2014.

And, it is worth a read! Very well written.
