I really do feel sorry for those guys, but you know what? I've seen the same on the Gulf Coast at least six times in my life and, other than Katrina ,which hit Mississippi, nobody GAF but Buddhist monks.

Yeah...I'm bitter about our Government.

these storms are perfectly natural, give or take.

they happen all the time, here there or elsewhere.

camille always will hang in my mind referencing a real storm.

we know this is a human population along the coasts issue. nothing new.

Is that why you worked as their agent for decades?

Of course. Why is my Government jumping out of it's ass in the Bahamas when the Carolinas are getting stormed?

Where a person lives is a choice. One of my choices is to never build/live in a flood plain. When I can't handle the heat I get out of the kitchen and do not expect the government to help

i understand. i have close kin in the raleigh, research triangle area.

the bahamas are owned or under control of the british.

the us doesn't seem to know where it's borderlines actually are?

that is, the coast guard resources assigned to bahama's are not in the us.

just keep working and paying taxes. it'll all get worked out, sooner or later.

it is has but this is an occurrence of nature. nothing anyone can do...Hurricane, Storm, earth quakes. the most important thing is to lend a helping hand when its all done.

Several years back, we had a bad tornado come through our county. It left a solid trail of destruction from county line to county line. I can’t recall the folks in the Bahamas sending any money, supplies, of offer of help in any way.

I hate it for them, but that’s a risk you take living on a Caribbean island.

Exactly.
You live in the Caribbean and this happens, in flood plains, you get wet sometimes, on west USA coast, earth quakes, Midwest tornados.
Get used to it and be prepared.

Be a good time to buy a house on Abaco cheap? Love the Carribean. I'd move there today if it was doable.

Either I or close family went through Betsy in 65, Camille in 69, Andrew in 1992 and Katrina in 2005. Nobody evacuated--just moved to higher ground and prepared to lose the house. Not the most prudent thing to do, but you get a hurricane-mentality when you live in those zones. Only solution is to make the government quit subsidizing flood insurance, so people cant rebuild on the government's (read taxpayer) nickel. Problem is there are too many people (read votes) who dont want to move, and instead take their chances. Did you notice how many houses in Marsh Harbor didnt lose their roofs? Only the slum areas, where structures are built of plywood, cardboard, loose cement blocks, and tin, got totally demolished. Not to say the rising waters didnt take out some nice houses too, but compared to Camille, there was a lot left. Camille literally scraped Henderson Point--not a tree or structure left, or even the debris, for about a 5 mile radius. Been there, done that.

One of the reasons there is so much devastation is that a lot of the houses constructed there would fall apart in a thunderstorm here.

Cause of we don't all the snowflakes will be hollowering about how mean and incompetent Trump is to not be rebuilding everything on the island with my money.
