The fact that this is news or people are amazed bothers the heck out of me.

Personally it would be a good start in many ways IMHO.

Google says EMP was discovered in 1965 but I suspect the guys at the Trinity site had their suspicions when their instrumentation went kaflooey. Funny nobody thought of defenses until recently. Particularly since the U.S. has reportedly developed non-nuclear EMP devices.

Or maybe EMP will be a whole brain electroshock and start the zombie apocalypse. Except for us tinfoil hat types. smirk

An EMP is a much more likely event to occur. Between Korea, China, and Iran, this will be what starts things going. It will make anyone effected out of contact with anyone. Military would be totally blind. 50% of people would die within 60 days. After that things would speed up. It is a serious threat.

A person I know keeps an old pickup for just such a problem occurring.
Problem is that beyond his existing gas he will have to siphon any he needs.
I did not read the posting, but did it cover the natural "Sunspot" caused occurrence in the latter 1800s.

Water, wind, animal and human power will be all there is for a good long time.

With the proper location, tools and timing I could suffer through.
Don't currently ave any of the three so I will be one to go early.

I believe you are referring to the Carrington event. It was enough to set the telegraph wires and pole alight. We have a great deal higher reliance upon technology now than then. The same event would cause wide spread death before repairs could be made.

I reckon these alarmists ought to try to fit their head in that microwave first.....before the grid goes down of course.

I can say from personal experience, that being prepared is much preferred to being caught flat footed. When my wife's health declined , and she had to medically retire, we dropped to a single income, and the bills increased.
We ate nearly all the food I had set aside before we got things under control. It has taken time and money to rebuild some of those stores.
