A simple faraday cage is a microwave oven. Simple cut the cord off, and place delicate items inside. It is designed to stop energy exiting the oven, so works well to prevent entry. I reckon these alarmists ought to try to fit their head in that microwave first.....before the grid goes down of course. If they turn out to be right, you'll look pretty funny.  Nah. I might loose a little weight. That would be about it. You can still warm that hotdog with some global warming

Robert, many years ago Newt brought William R. Forstchen (author of One Second After) before Congress to warn them of the devastating effects of an EMP or a major solar flare......it was largely ignored! Much the same as many “fire” members. If it happens, I hope that their families do not suffer a long, miserable deaths due to their denial of the realities of these events! memtb

It is a real threat. It would not be that expensive to protect our power grid, but we do nothing.
If the EMP hits, vehicles won't run. That means, by day 3, no more food in the grocery store. And on day 5, people start starving. Starving people will kill other people and take their food.
Within 2 weeks, millions will die.
I did have a 1982 Mercedes diesel with a stick shift, it would run following an EMP. But I sold it because, you wouldn't get far down the road, somebody would shoot you and take your car.
If the EMP hits, you better have a big stock pile of food, access to water, and a 2 year supply of propane for your stove, and wood for your wood stove.

All 3 of those are interesting reads. The audio book versions are quite good as well. Gingrich was involved in those books to some extent so this isn't new to him.

It's great if you like poorly written books.....I really like that post apocalyptic genre of literature and was looking forward to reading it after seeing so many recommendations for it here, but it was honestly pretty bad.
