Guys, I mostly just lurk around this site for information and generally purchase most of my needs online. I was curious as to what methods are used to pay for items purchased on the classified forum and any pre-cautions I need to take before starting any transactions.

Knowing the seller helps, seeing previous posts and darn good communications.
Get phone, contact, etc. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
I tried to send a scope to a gentleman the same day he sent the check based on seeing his actions over awhile. Didn't happen, but I'd have no problem doing it with most folks.
I hate USPS money orders as local PO doesn't have money and lines are long and hours aren't convenient.
Paypal has its pros and cons.
Personal check is equally good and bad.

Do what makes the receiver happy and most folks are pretty good.

I always use discreet PayPal gift on this site and others. That’s the fastest way to get money and items shipped. I’ve never had a problem using it but you just need to make sure you’re comfortable with seller.

Some don’t like using it because pp isn’t gun friendly but neither are the banks or post office where you get checks anymore so that argument is moot.

Just be comfortable with seller and know there is always a risk. I’ve been buying and selling for over 15 years and never a problem but you will see that people do sometimes get scammed and lose money...

Never buy anything from ArmsList.com!! It is a criminal infested site.

I only buy from people that have over 100 posts and then I read some of those posts to ensure that there is some substance, not just an attempt to build post count.
I only send and receive usps mo as I think they are hard to counterfeit.
Never have had an issue with 25 or so transactions.

I’ve had good luck with USPS money orders and PayPal. Know that PayPal will not cover you if you are purchasing “weapons”. So their 3% fee is worthless if you’re buying a gun. Not sure if it applies to knives or bows. Also, USPS money orders can be fraudulent. Make sure you have the funds before shipping. I’ve only had a problem with one buyer who agreed to a deal and then never paid or responded.

I have sent and received many personal checks from members here when I sell things mainly my maple syrup and I haven't been even close to being taken for,and I don't bother waiting for it to clear. Ya see many of the names here and ya can almost say ya know them and if they were to intentionally screw someone over you'd know about it and be done.

There are enough people here that know me personally that ifn I ever got stupid, they’d knock some of the stupidity right back out and make it good. I don’t need em to as all we have is our word and honor.
And if anyone ever screws someone in the Denver area, feel free to reach out, a few of us would probably be glad to help.

Your bank won’t cash usps money orders? I have never cashed a usps money order at the post office.

I'll take USPS MO or personal check (hold to clear if somebody I don't know) or paypal friends and family. Never had a problem.

I've done a good bit of business here and other sites. I’ve never been burnt. I used PC, MO, PP and bank checks. I have my favorites on here, but overall this site (and a few others) seems to be a decent group of folks...
