I still cant figure out how none of 4 hunters shot the bear. I guess the bear was smart enough to attack and swat each ones gun into the Bush before they could do anything.

I still cant figure out how none of 4 hunters shot the bear. I guess the bear was smart enough to attack and swat each ones gun into the Bush before they could do anything. Rifle season's aren't open in MT yet. Almost certainly theses guys were bow hunting for Elk/Mule Deer. These attacks are ~10mi (as the crow flies) or so from the area closed down a few weeks ago due to grizzlies feeding on 13 dead cattle...........

Was in Grand Teton area last year this time and saw a chopper pull up a body of guide killed by a griz and a hunter severely mauled. There is a reason griz were nearly eradicated in the lower 48. They are dangerous. The idea that we should have lots of these type of predators in areas where recreation goes on - be it hunting or the Starbuck's crowd "hiking" - is not a wise one.

I've never hunted bears, but have hunted in bear country, and saw every damn one of them around me, if these guys are 'hunting', and short of a full on explosive charge out of the brush, how in the hell does something that big get close enough to whip your ass?

I've never hunted bears, but have hunted in bear country, and saw every damn one of them around me, if these guys are 'hunting', and short of a full on explosive charge out of the brush, how in the hell does something that big get close enough to whip your ass? 17-20 Grizz feeding on what ended up being at least 13 cattle carcasses shut down access (hunting or otherwise) to decent sized chunk of ground ~10Mi to the S. Not unfathomable that the offender in this case is an owly youngster or a really old bear who was kicked off the cattle carcasses.

Who said anything about "through"? A guy pinned and thrashing around, a bear on top thrashing around, you under stress trying to make a good shot with a handgun, and you don't think it's possible to hit your hunting partner? Again, lots of big talk...
