Test.........

Took one of the varmint guns out the other day to test drive and check drops.

Set out a bunch of balloons from 300 to 600 yards. There's more to the right not in the pic:

I started prone with the bipod, beginning on the right moving up from the closest, through the middle, then furthest balloons, ranging & dialing for each shot, then dialing back to zero & doing it again:

Next, I shot sitting with the tripod, same M/O, from closest to furthest, ranging and dialing for each shot:

Lastly, I shot standing, off the tripod:(no I wasn't standing on the tripod)

I like it. I questioned myself on why I was shopping for tripods earlier this year, but I'm more than pleased with the purchase. I couldn't justify the price of a Feisol, so I settled for this set up for less than half. Only downside is the weight, however, it can be an advantage.

It's one of my 22-204's.......80 VLD's at 3025.

Before someone asks, this is not the same as a 222 mag.......

I've packed that chair to hell and back for coyote hunting, and would be lost without it.

This one is a Cabelas version I bought a long time ago, and wished I had bought a couple more for back up. Basically it's a "stadium" chair, and there's hundreds out there for sale. This one is 18"x18", and I wouldn't want one any smaller. I do have an old one from Gander that's older than this one and smaller, but just never use it after getting the bigger one.

Most all of them have plastic stays in them, and they will bust, making you think you're in a beanbag chair. I replaced mine with aluminum, and would do the same on a new one immediately after getting it home.

I've got a big Feisol, and between myself and companions we've shot a lot of game off of it. I use it a ton for competition (primarily for holding binos, then as rear support, and only rarely clipped into the arca rail). I am considering the upgrade to a RRS to be honest. Tough pricetag to justify, but I use it for SOOOO many hours per year.

I finally justified the purchase by insisting I needed to upgrade my spotting scope tripod to get away from a lighter weight (flimsy) aluminum Manfrotto I had, plus use it occasionally to shoot off of. I'm only into the tripod and ball head for $477.00 to the door. The only downside is the weight at 7 1/2 lbs, sans hog saddle, but I wasn't going to sheep hunt with it.

I'm using it a lot more than I ever figured I would, so it was money well spent.

I need to get one of them tripods just to give my knuckles a break from trying to shoot squirrels from the door jam of my pick up.

Even considering an Area419 rail.

Aalf, how you liking the Leupold? Is it tracking well? I’m looking to scope a 260 and keep going back and forth between the vx6hd with TMOA and the Nightforce nxs 3.5-15x50 with MOAR

The horror stories about Leupold tracking have me nervous. The vx6hd weight would be way better for me than the Nightforce but I would sacrifice for better tracking and reliability

I too shoot milk jugs and balloons. Using flower in the balloon works awesome!

I like it a lot. I've read all the same horror stories, but bought this one in spite of them. Tracking has been proven.

I originally had the same Nightforce on this gun that you're considering. I decided I wanted to put it on a diet, so I sent the barrel in for fluting, and switched out the scope. Fluting dropped 11 ozs, and the scope saved me another 11 ozs. I could have saved some more wight by going to Talleys, but would have lost the ability to easily switch out scopes if I wanted

when i call coyotes out west ,i went to using a AR10 243 24 inch barrel ,Nightforce scope 4.5x14 with a Moar ,Harris sit down swivel bi-pod. my reason for this set up i have had more then one coyote come in at a time,so with a semi-auto there is less movement and plenty accurate fire power too hopefully get more than one coyote hide. these custom AR`S shoot very accurate but yes they are heavier too.
