I just bought one of these, 1954 manufacture date, 30-06, Standard rifle. Good condition. Barrel and bluing is almost new, stock shows some handling marks, but no cracks or gouges. Looks like it wasn’t shot much. I paid 450.00 for it, at a gun shop. Has the price dropped on these? I was shocked I walked out of there with it for that price.

You stole it for that price based on the condition described. If a Monte Carlo stock, then it will work well with optics. If a low comb, then I’d be on the hunt for a receiver sight.

It’s got the Monte Carlo stock. Also still has the original sights and front hood over the blade.

That is one helluva deal!
I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all. Jack O'Connor

From what I can see that market has softened a bit but you still got a great deal. The action is worth more than that.

The market is definitely soft, but that is still an outstanding score. Good job! 👍

Sounds like a great deal. Pics would be great.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

The value has dropped considerably in the last 15-20 years...but yea...you got a great deal!
If your going to modify it please consider selling it to a collector, making a profit and starting with an already modified one

No, I have no plans to modify it. I’ve owned a few over the years and appreciate them for what they are. The Rifleman’s Rifle. There perfect as they are. I use a Winchester Model 70 Classic, SS, 338 Win Mag quite often. I just have wanted another 30-06. I didn’t expect this one to fall into my lap for that price.
