I bought a6.5 mag Remington 660 in 71 or 72. It was a good little rifle and very accurate. I shot mostly 120 grain bullets in it. There weren't three deer in the whole county back then so there wasn't really much reason to have it other than shooting on the range. I later sold it because I had about enjoyed all the noise from that thing I could stand.

I have a friend that owns one and getting brass has been a nightmare.
But the cartridge/rifle has been super accurate and with the right bullets it "double distilled dark death" on antelope and deer.
I have rounded up 80+ pieces so far. Should last a long time for a hunting rifle. Glad to see it worked well for him.

my 280 has kept me from buying a lot of other rifles... i don't care about practical when it comes to centerfires, to wit: 6mm Remington, 280 Remington, 300 RSAUM, 300 H&H, 444 Remington... notice the gap in 6.5! I need one. If it was all about being practical We would all lose interest pretty quick!

I enjoyed working up loads for my buddy who owned one. Great shooting cartridge. I wouldn’t mind owning a 7 x 350 Rem Mag. I do own a 7 RSAUM, so I think it’s the same.

The plastic bottom "metal",short/schitty spout, junk stock ergo's and poor fire control system really makes 'er a Peach. Frost same with schit base, rings and glass...then take it to a Jerry Lewis Telethon for The "Win". Hint. Congratulations?!?
Then add the fact that you cain't shoot a boolit worth a fhuqk in it and it boils down to a fairly expensive to feed Signaling Device, which is apparently held in high esteem by CLUELESS Fhuqks. Hint.
EPIC fhuqking HILARITY.
Bless their hearts for trying though.

Took it out yesterday. Had a box of factory 120 core-locts. Shot ok for factory ammo but not remarkable. Didn’t even measure anything but would estimate about 1.5”. The few rounds I chronographed were consistent but an anemic 2890 fps average.
Recoil is snappy but manageable. Trigger sucks.
I think there is enough potential here to justify a little investment in the trigger and load development. Possibly need to float it as well.
Going to back burner it until next spring/summer. Killing time starts this weekend and I will be busy now till the end of May with big game, fur, lions and bear.

A former member who has pass was a dear friend SSB (God Bless him) Had a thing for 673s and the last year before he passed he has the best season on his life (56 years) he took two great bucks for the area and his nephew took a decent one with a 6.5 Rem that had never been shot and setting for quite a while in his stock
He decided that year he was going to set it up he did like his others. (673) he took the rib off and put a Leupy on it Guy 57 loaded some Partitions for it and he was off to a great season
I am very fortunate to say the rifle is in my care now Even though I like my 673s with the rib this will stay just as it is
And it was said earlier show up with a 350 or 6.5 rem mag you will be the only guy in camp with one but don't forget your ammo

I have had a few 6.5 rem mag rifles. My current one is a NULA mod. 28 short. In my experience it is a very accurate cartridge. It does not seem to be finicky to reload. My NULA rifle has 3 inch magazine and a 24 inch barrel . I have no trouble with 140 gr.
bullets reducing powder capacity. Remington has not discontinued the brass but it will only be produced every few years. You can backorder hard to get brass at Duck creek sporting goods. I would not be surprised if Nosler begins to offer 6.5 RM brass in the future.

I have one based on a remington 700 RH LA magnum action. It has a H-S precision stock, a Bartlein barrel and averages .500 3 shot groups with a 120 ballistic tip. The Nosler technical rep says the 6.5 mag case can be loaded higher safely than the 6.5-284 which has similar case capacity.

I picked up a LA 700 Classic a few years ago wearing an 8 twist Douglas stainless barrel. 85 and 100gr Sierras will group five shots at or under an inch at 100yds, but it'll stack 140gr Bergers on top of each other. The fact that it came with 100 pieces of new brass was a big plus.
