Yes, we do. When I was a kid in the 40s and early 50s our family did this on many Sundays. And, we rode the same kinds of twisty rural Pennsylvania back roads you mentioned - but it was in Southeastern PA.

Now it's just two old folks, and it's a kick to crank up any one of these several 50 year-old Chev trucks - or the 52 year-old Corvette - and take a spin. Of course, in the mountain SW, the paved roads almost always are the shortest route between two populated places and there are not many paved wandering "back country" roads. So, only some trucks go on those.

We take lots of drives, mostly on the gravel roads around our area! We have thousands of miles of good logging roads, in our area! The wife picks the area, and I drive. We bought a used SUV for that purpose! Usually in mountains in the summer and the desert in the winter! We love in the transition zone between the two! Plus we can hunt something year around here!

I do it six days a week, it’s called going to work.

We are on a rode trip now, going to Temple to see a band we like called Fast Movin Train.

ALL THE TIME - ever since I got my drivers license.

Going somewhere is half the fun.
Coming back is the other half.

The best times of my life was when my dog Barney and I used to go riding together.

Barney used to stand on the hump and stick his head out of the sunroof. As we went down the road, I'd call "Cows on the right!" or "Horses on the left!" and Barnedy would move over to that window and either bark (for cows) or whine (for horses). We played a lot of Keith Jarrett's solo concerts. We'd either ride to Falmouth for plumbing parts or Mount Olivet for fried chicken or Brooksville to the grocery and then take the long way home-- wherever that was.

Dog's been gone since 2006. The rides just aren't the same.

7mmbuster, We used to do that all the time. But, buying this place and the never ending work has pretty much controlled our lives for the last 20 years. mad We keep saying, we’re “turning the corner”, and next year we’ll do more. But, next years seems to be like “tomorrow”.....we all know that “Tomorrow Never Comes”! frown memtb

It’s road rage in the car or relaxation on the bike so if I’m looking for a calming trip, it’s on the bike. I save the car for the cold weather.

This AM was a run in my wife's roadster for breakfast in Blanco. Next month a random road trip to Nashville hitting two sons along the loop.

No! Make that HELL NO!

Only at Xmas, when my wife drags me, screaming and bitching, by the short hairs to "go look at the lights. I've seen 'em. JFC, what a waste of time and fuel.

Big diff between us when it comes to traveling by car. I want to get there, she wants to go there, stopping as often as possible to gander, hike, etc.. Now in my old age, I'm getting even with frequent pee stops. smile. It's a relief, I'm telling you..... smile

The dogs appreciate it anyway.

If I have to hike someplace, or drive, at length, I wanna kill something good to eat. Or have the oipportunity, anyway.
