Very Cool, What movies were you an extra in?

I was on China Beach a couple times, played Amish on Murder She Wrote, I was in Army of Darkness, a few sitcoms, and a Guiness beer commercial with Rutger Hauer. (Got a chance to discuss that crossbow he carried in Lady Hawk.)

By all standards, I am an upright citizen today..........................compared to my earlier life.

RE: porn stars. Had a coworker I was told had her own website at one time. I found this out from some of the younger guys at work, she told them but not the old guy. Musta figured I was some sort of perv! Honestly, she was an OK person, lived nextdoor for a little while. I did find out she liked both flavors though.

Worked with a guy way back in the mid 80's, had gorgeous twin daughters that made the Playboy magazine a few years before I met him. I had to look them up to see if it was truth he was telling me. He wasn't lying.

Oh yeah, we had a few of those too, no doubt. I think, at least for the people I worked for, they tended to pick the more discreet, drama free girls to bring along on charters vs the ones you literally wanted to duct tape and lock in their staterooms. Sometimes you just can’t tell what they were capable of beforehand, and I’ve had to go back to the dock a few times to have some of them removed, but overall most of the pro girls I’ve had on charter have been very low key, mellow, and wanted to drive the boat and fish more than party.

As for crazy, when I was running the charter boat out of NMB, the capt docked next to me chartered his boat out every Wednesday during our slow months for guys to shoot porn movies on. At the time, I was only running my boat on the weekends, as I had a full time gig during the week, but every once in a while when I wasn’t busy would tag along to “help” crew. It was funny when we had 5 guys show up in the morning asking if we needed any extra mates for the day. What they didn’t know is that most days he already had a lot of extra crew ready to help out on board. With those girls, it was pretty clear what they were and that they were a bag of worms already. Lots of fights, both verbal and physical, people showing up loaded after partying on South Beach all night, cops, arrests, etc. The Capt was an owner operator, so he was making out great on a day he would normally be tied to the dock, but to me at least, it wasn’t worth the trouble and the risk to my license. This all reminded me of a story from back in my college days.

My sophomore year, this was about January of '78, I had started to figure out that TV news might not be the best career for me. I'd had some really good recognition for my writing, and I started thinking about screenwriting. I was out to dinner with some friends. One of them was Jack D. Jack was one of the local station salesmen, and had previously worked as a disc jockey. Jack was a New Yawka.

"I gotta proposition for ya." said Jack. "You write really well. I've called some friends back in New York. I sent them some of your stuff. They want to meet ya."

This was it! This was my big break!

"They produce movies," he went on. "They've got an operation on 42nd Street. You'll write the scripts. You'll have an office all to yourself overlooking Times Square."

I had studied that crossbow, frame by frame in the movie, intending to recreate it. The more I studied it, the less sense it made. It was a double decker crossbow with top and bottom bows, and no matter how i figured it out, there was no mechanism i could foresee that would keep that bottom bolt in place, and still fire, as shown in one very brief scene. It baffles me. I had to ask....
Turns out, it was held in place with super glue! And the one very close, fast shot you see fired, was a mock up piece, using compressed air to throw the bolt. It was too close a camera shot to see how it's fired, but just enough to see it launch off the bottom rail. (Lol...movie magic. How tall was King King? 3 feet. )
