TR405....Weather would depend a lot on elevation....your guide should be able to fill you in as to what you need for clothing...Be sure to have BUG DOPE in case it is warm!.....and a HEADNET...I live about 150 miles or so SW of Tumbler Ridge @ 2500' elevation and in late May early June (after the first hatch) there are times the skeets will drive you out of the bush if you don't have a headnet!

Like Nrut says it will depend a lot on how high you are. My neighbour was just in Prince George (~ 80 miles south of Tumbler Ridge) and he said the snow is pretty much toast except for the odd bit in shaded areas. PG would be at about 1800 ft above sea level. Its quite mountainous around T Ridge and up high there will be quite a bit of snow yet but it will be melting quickly by now.

If I was going I would be prepared for freezing temperatures and stormy weather. Layers is the ticket as it could get quite warm too. Have good rain gear or otherwise waterproof pants and jacket. And do not underestimate the bugs as said..

I worked several summers/autumns in the TR area, and to tell you the truth, I saw more grizz sign then blacks. I was in the Red deer falls area. The most blacks(signs and visual)I ever saw were along the Smoky river in the Peace Country and another good location was south of Grande Prairie in the Latournel area. This is not only for your information but could be useful for others going after blacks. have agood day

I worked up there too 378' building the railroad but I never made it right to Tumbler Ridge - I was one tunnel away. The Sukunka valley and Table river valley certainly had a good jag of grizzlys sign. But spending a lot of time bushwacking as a surveyor in these areas I only saw black bears and never a grizzly bear mind you we were pretty noisy cutting line and such. I saw tons of black bears though..

It can be not bad to very bad. Depends on a few things but be prepared for the worst.

The worst is insects on any exposed area all the time. In your eyes, up your nose, in your mouth...

Don't worry we have lots of bears of both kinds but also possibility of lots of bugs in that area. Come prepared to repel bugs

I've spent a lot of time in that country even though I'm in AB now. Lots of bears. Best advice has been given already. Be prepared for bugs, for hot weather, wet weather or even cold weather. That time of yr you could get any or all of the above. Have a great trip, some of the nicest country in the world!

It can be TR, but don't stress about it. In the worse bugs I have seen, if your walking a decent pace its no big deal. If you need to stop its no fun. Find some "Avon Skin So Soft" lotion, it works great as a repellant and isn't so nasty to your skin as the super duty deet stuff... Better yet get a bug net hat thingy and wear cloths that don't let'm in and its no biggy.

It will depend on weather conditions. If its cool, you'll have a few those big zephlin mosquitos flying around in slow motion and that's about it. If it warms right up, say 60 degrees F plus there could be clouds of smaller agressive little bastards..

They are definitely out I saw 4 bears, 3 moose, 1 wolf, and 15 or 20 deer this evening.

The first bear was a blondish cinnamon, the second was a average size chocolate boar, the other two were a mom and cub in chocolate.

Have any of you all ever used the thermacell's. I have read great things about them, and I am getting ready to head up to Quebec in two weeks.... I will try one and let you all know when I get back.
