I’m hoping to restock the first rifle I ever bought and the only rifle I’d never sell... a stainless Rem700 in 7 Rem Mag.. I prefer ADL stocks...

I’ve had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders over the past few years and am feeling the recoil more than I used to, so something that helps tame recoil a bit would be a plus.. I already have a m7 .308 in a lightweight stock, so this doesn’t have to be my lightweight rig...also, I’m not as obsessed about light weight as many of the guys around here... any thoughts or recommendations?

Those B&C Medalist stocks actually work fairly well for recoil and do ad a bit of weight. One would have to buy a BDL bottom to replace the ADL.

The 7mag bbl will fill the channel. Get it bedded and you GTG.

McMillan Classic, buy once cry once.

Put a muzzle brake on it and like 16bore suggested get the McMillan. I recommend the Edge fill. Your shoulder will thank you.

I put mine in a Ti stock. A little sandpaper in the barrel channel and it works well. Like OP, my 7RM was the first centerfire for me and will be the last to go.

I personally would look for an old ks magnum takeoff.

If you do go with one of the current McMillan offerings, DakotaDeer’s recommendation is a good one. There is no need for edge fill if you aren’t looking for lightweight - and the few extra ounces will certainly help with recoil mitigation.

Yep. Standard or mag fill, swirl/camo as you prefer. If you want more weight, McMillan has a sniper fill that can up the weight a bit more.

I say brake it and use the old wood stock. You probably have memories of where most of the blemishes on the stock happened.

Try a good, perpendicular 3 port muzzle brake. The ones that have " holes all around" are just too loud. If that scratches your itch, you saved a wad of money! If not, well, at least you can go with a lighter stock similar to your sporter and not a heavy truck axle like target stock. Good luck to you Pard! I would also recommend you load up some Nosler 120 or Barnes 120 and try them.

I'd get a McMillan Classic and have them install a Limbsaver pad. You can go with magnum fill to add a little weight if you want, an extra 4-8oz in my experience. Load it to 280Rem levels and it should be pleasant enough.

I have that same H-K stock on my LH Rem 700 7 Mag (which I bought new in 1980). It's been excellent --- I didn't skin bed it and it shoots at least as well as it did with the fully bedded factory stock.

PS: I also covered all of the metal with Teflon, including the Leupold scope.

Thanks guys, lots of good ideas... I bought a Forbes 24b (30-06) thinking I’d invest in a completely new rifle for a little bit more than a premium stock... like the rifle, but can’t seem to let go of the 7mag... sentimental, I guess.

Hopefully I’ll figure it out and get out to use them more than I have lately.
