Wish me luck. Gonna try to put the smack on a pronghorn with a 99F in .308, if I can get within 250 yards. Long travel day. Leaving out of Tampa with a layover/change in Dallas, before continuing to Rapid City, where they're predicting 5" of fresh snow by the time I touch down at 8pm. Stay there over night, then drive 1 1/2 hrs in the morning to Newcastle.
Temps only supposed to top out in mid thirties the whole hunt. At least I shouldn't have to contend with rattlers while I'm belly crawling with my face inches off the ground.
I have the .308 zeroed for 200 with 150 gr Hornady Non Typicals, and it was pretty tight two weeks ago. I'm sure I could stretch it out to 350, but its wearing a K4 60-B, so I won't.
Ok, full report and, hopefully, pics when I get back.

I shot a nice antelope a few years back with a pre war EG 300 with an old Weaver KV 2.75-5x in Stiths that was sighted 1.5' high at 100, that Mike sold me probably 8 or 10 years ago.
When I got settled in, I asked the guy I was with who was shooting the range finder, "how far is he"?
298. Held about 12 inches high of where I wanted to hit. Bang. Dead.
Nothing amazing about it really, Point being, your rig will shoot 300 easy.
Good luck. Looking forward to the pics.

Good luck and shoot straight, Tim.
Yeah, about that prickly pear cactus. I'm still pulling those micro stickers out of my belly from an infantry crawl that put me within 40 yards of a trophy pronghorn 25 years ago.

Thanks David. That's very nice of you. Depending on where I book my muley or elk hunt, I just might surprise you next year.

I just got back from a trip out West. Found this guy in Wyoming. Belly crawled to within 25 yards for this pic. I asked my guide to pass me the rifle, but all she (the wife) brought along was a NIkon. Charlie

don't believe that myth about rattle bugs not being out in the winter time, not unusual for them to come out when the sun pops out

I'm jealous, I think antelope is the best tasting meat. I used to hunt pronghorn and mule deer around Lusk with my dad but haven't been in a long time. I didn't own a 99 then, all I had was a Remington 700 .243. It did the trick though.

My hunt is supposed to start today. Instead I'm in a hotel in Denver waiting for a flight into Rapid City. I've been cancelled three times already. Even if I get there I don't know where my guns and gear are. If the forces of the universe align and with a bit of karma, my guns and gear waill arrive with me and I can drive the two hours through passable roads and start my hunt tomorrow morning. But no stress. I will report back.
