When I use priority mail, they always ask me if there is any hazardous material. Is ammo considered hazardous by their standards? I know ammo shippers don't hang a hazmat fee on it, but I don't know if USPS considers it hazardous.

Truth of the matter is Ammo Is NOT hazardous. Short of a serious fire, it can be dropped, run over, smashed, and it will not go off. I understand this is not what the OP asked, but it's another political issue, that is being pushed.

Can Ammo go off by itself?
Your friend is either gullible or nuts! Simple answer, no, it will not go off just from handling it. Even if it does go off for some reason, the bullet will not be propelled like it was fired from a weapon.Nov 27, 2008

There are videos out there showing that. The post office doesn't want to ship it. But not because it's hazardous.
