I am a huge fan of the Cummins (own three currently)... have owned 20-25 in my life. I buy the older 12 valves cheap and use for a while... post for resale at 150%-200% of what I paid and resell when a buyer comes along (buyer ALWAYS come along sooner or later).

The two facts I can state about a Cummins motor truck...

1) It is the ONLY truck you can buy and use every single day (use in a "normal" manner (i.e. not abuse like an 18 year old)). And it will go UP in value. 7.3s and 22R somewhat similar, but not like a Cummins.

2) Miles mean NOTHING.

My three currently owned have 285k, 255k and 425k

Example: Bought this 1993 in 1999 for $10k... drove her 9+/- years and sold for $10k... guy that bought her could resell for $22k+ in today's market

If you need a dually, get one.

Otherwise stick with a SRW... way more comfortable IMHO, better resale value and you won't have to cuss the Millennial Civil Engineers that will be designing the future parking lots for "Smart" Micro cars.

If the ride is to rough for you consider custom Deaver leaf springs OR Sulastic (spelling) shackles. They will help a bunch.

I'd buy it! Have a '06 3500 single rear wheel and a 90 2500, sometime I get better milage than my Toyota with both.

Repairs are mucho expensive for diesels, the 06 needed injectors @ 140K, seems to be a common issue with those years and that milage, injectors alone were $2600 + $1000 labor, not a job most owners can do themselves. Ball joints are another common failing, after a lot of research I replaced mine with Carli Suspension, another $800 but I was able to do these myself (barely). The engine had a low RPM vibration, the guy that did my injectors figured the flywheel was out of balance, the stock is not a solid unit, but it has one now.

Great truck, but not for a poor man.

If you know the current owner took good care of it, that's half the battle to finding a good truck.

That's a great deal! The Laramie has leather seats and a lot of other options. He paid a lot of money for that truck. I think you'll love the 6-spd standard too.

I have 3 buddies with 3500 diesels that year. All three needed a clutch at the 120-160k mark. Just something to watch out for.

I have 2003, bought used 33K in '05, same set-up. 97K now. Front end rebuild, water pump so far. Tho I think the dealer may have snooked me on the front end thing, as 15,000 miles later they told me it needed it again. Didn't go back for any more "service checks", still OK, 40K later.....

Wife put gas in, so that had to be fixed. Mechanic (now out of business) told me that year had a weak in-tank pump which it would be wise to change out to exterior fuel pump at the same time. Not so sure about that either.. Takes abut 4 seconds to fire up now, instead of next to nothing.

On third mechanic- I think this one is good. Just put third set of tires on. Came with Michelins, then Nokio, back to Michelins. Huge difference in ride over Nokio.

\Still aint a passenger car, tho.... smile

Whackem,

It sounds like a great truck. You may find the Arctic Fox is pretty heavy and you will be close to maxing out the tires. I had to go to 19.5 wheels on my Single rear wheel pickup to safely carry the load of my Eagle Cap 950. They weigh more than the factory sticker says they do when loaded up...
