Yep - Jumper took the big jump elsewhere. Too much maintenance, too little time and money, too many other repairs, etc to do. and too little mechanical ability.

In the winter of 80/81, I took to carrying my Single Six Convertible, with the magnum cylinder, in the truck (same one the moose killed several years later), after i witnessed 3 moose hit by either the vehicle directly in front of mine, or the next one up. Troopers were often an hour in arriving due to icy roads and business elsewhere. Too long to let an animal suffer IMO.

Put two down myself later that winter, and 3 the next winter, again hit by the first or second vehicles in front of me And none since then. Guess we thinned 'em out enough!

Incidentally, I don't count those road kills in my personal tally of moose killed - I only count those taken during season with a rifle or shotgun.

A work friend hit a horses head with a Ford Escort windshield.
A pillar and the windshield were all that got hit.
Considerable damage, but he is a former bodyman and made some money off
the insurance.

The horse made soap.

Lady here hit a moose with a Honda accord, it went through the windshield legs first. Like to kicked her to death. If I remember right she had 600 + stitches.
Moose got loose and left

A coworker here hit a moose about a month ago with his Chevy Impalla, well he more like drove under a moose.
There was a broken windshield and the roof and A pillar were dented but no other damage.
He said he never saw it until it was going over the top of him.
