A few friends and myself are looking to go on a whitetail hunt next year. I was originally thinking Ohio, but after looking around the prices are pretty similar in a lot of places. I'm not real interested in paying a trophy fee. Looking at a rifle/shotgun or muzzleloader hunt. We are undecided on whether to go full guided or self guided, though we wouldn't need to drag along near as much stuff on a self guided. We live in VA and would say Texas would be about the travel limit for us. If you have been on a hunt and have a recommendation or a warning those would be appreciated. Thanks for any help.

Mulie Mike on here (texas) has had quite a few favorable reviews. Never hunted with him myself but would be a place to start looking.

+1 for Mulie Mike.
You could also check out some places in GA or KY. Good deer hunting there for the price.

Boy, you should look at Alberta or Saskatchewan, unbelievable country, cool people and huge deer... Just a thought....
Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
Ain’t easy havin pals.

I have hunted Kentucky several times over the last few years, last season I hunted western Kentucky the Land Between the Lakes area. I saw plenty of deer and harvested a nice 8 pt. buck.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had looked into Canada, but there are so many associated travel costs that make it not worth it to me. I also saw those discounted hunts in Texas on here but they are this year’s hunts and we aren’t organized enough for that right now. The Kansas hunts look good also. I am focused now on KY for the shorter drive and value of the hunts. Hope to be booking in the next week.

Yeah I think he leases like 15,000 acres. Bow hunting is definitely great in KS, but if you are taking a rifle you will see some good bucks there. He has a facebook page that shows some of the deer. He just shot a 367 pound (on the hoof) ancient buck. The mass on it is crazy. Of course it was with a bow..... They have great guides and great food too. It's in Mound City KS, not far from Missouri, down in the SE corner. I've been there three times. And don't overlook Oklahoma. I have shot 3, 160 class bucks there in the last 6 years. It's a sleeper state
