Professional hunter from South Africa, Theunis Botha, was killed when an elephant collapsed on top of him. The harrowing incident took place on Friday, May 19, 2017, at a game reserve in Zimbabwe during a hunting trip he was leading. The horrifying scene shows just how much danger one puts himself in by threatening elephants. Even a dying one still managed to take someone with her — she wasn’t going down alone.

the hunters were near a group of elephant with pregnant cows, three pachyderms charged, but the PH got
totally blind-sided by a fourth which lifted him up...another hunter then shot said female elephant which fell
onto the PH.

Anyone who thinks hunting a big bull ele is the most dangerous, then they are mistaken.
If you really want danger, put yourself in a group of cows.

Best advice is stay away from cow herds. They will deliberately hunt and kill you. Besides, cows have small ivory. Maybe these guys were on a tuskless hunt, which have become more popular since the US government, in its great stupidity, has prohibited importing elephant parts.

Bulls live by themselves or in very small groups. If you shoot one in the lungs they usually just take off in the direction they are facing. Usually. I was mock charged by a young bull.

Incidentally the law in Zimbabwe is you can shoot in self defense even if you don't have a tag, but you are supposed to wait until they get within 5 yards.
