Youngest boy went elk hunting with me this season. He drew a cow tag, me a bull. Wade hasn't been to elk camp since he was a bitty little shaver. Little chit got saddle sored and froze his azz off last time, and hasn't wanted to go back since... He was maybe nine then, and 30 now. Well, this spring he decided he wanted to go again. I don't know if he really wanted to hunt, or just wanted to make sure the ol' man didn't die alone on the mountain from a heart attack, or such. No matter, I love him like a son(which he is, grin), and welcomed the thought of him going. It was really nice having him along, as he done most of the work (think rented mule).... We shared wheelie-cart duties day before going in, and he hauled all his meat out to the truck first night. Spent the night in the truck and I stayed on the mountain. He pushed the buggy back up sunday morning while I tried for a bull. Kid made a nice shot on a cow with Miss Polly, and drilled her again when she made her feet. Both shots were within about 6 inches of each other. First shot exited and we recovered the other 140 Amax under the hide on the off side. After not being able to find a bull, I decided to forego the rest of the hunt to get the meat taken care of as it was purty warm out. He took the camp load out, without letting me have a turn in the push-cart derby. So we came on home a bit early. Already planning next year and having BOTH boys go.... last time.... I've hunted from this same rockpile off and on, for about 30 years... great spot to glass from, and elk are usually in the quakies/basin below the lookout... shot from the lookout... packed the meat to the hill above camp, where we could get the wheelie-buggy to it... Miss Polly scores.... almost up, with the first load...

Smiling here. You’re both blessed.

Good stuff. That first pic reminds me of my early days. It's where I got hooked on this sport.
