ok fellas i wasn't sure where to post this question but figured the gunsmiths would know the inner workings of the bolt/rifle better than any one else. so, i'm going to install a lighter trigger spring in a couple of my tikka t3x rifles and i don't have snap caps nor spent rounds to cushion the firing pin with. will it harm the rifle and in particular the firing pin to dry fire it a few times checking trigger pull weights? thanks, Big Ed

Not at all. But I have a habit of closing bolt guns by holding the trigger back as I close the bolt. But to check pull, it is fine to dry fire.

ok thanks guys. i knew it wasn't good to dry fire rimfires but wasn't sure about centerfires. thanks again, Big Ed That depends upon the design. It doesn't hurt many modern rimfires to dry fire them.
