Calvin, I always shoot a variety of bullet weight's in my MT 308's, 150's, 165's, 180's, but I've only ever hunted with the 165's. Just has always struck me as the "natural" weight for the 308.

The 150's kick the same as 140's from the 7-08 MT

90% of my shooting is with the 165/168, and I don't find those bad at all, though they do get more "sporty" prone. 180's are stout, but not bad for a few shots. 150's are tame.

As I near 60 yo I dislike recoil more and more (plus I don't shoot much lately). However, with the above 500 yard group I went out and shot in my t-shirt, not having shot any centerfire for 2 mos. Recoil didn't even enter into it.

Damned fine shooting.

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

I have several nice rifles, but when I am hiking and carrying a stand, I always reach for my Montana 308. It will routinely put 3 shots under an inch with 150’s or 165’s. I only use R-15 or Varget.

I had one a few years ago that I bought primarily for the scope that came on it. It shot surprisingly well from the bench but I discovered I prefer a little more heft to settle on a hairy target from field positions.

Love my Kimber’s, all 3 shoot 1/2” or better at 100 yards

260, 308, 300 Win Mag.... and a 270 WSM that’ll be here soon.

I will say I’m not sure why I keep grabbing yet another 270 WSM Montana to try. I’ve never been able to get them to shoot under an inch.
They all found new homes, but I love the Montana’s and the cartridge so I shall try again.
