I'm not sure how it is on other cars, but my 2 Acuras have the electronic keys that lock and unlock the doors and they also have conventional keys.

I don't like all the bulk on my key ring so I just use the conventional keys.

I don't like pushing the button on my key to lock the door, only to walk away putting the keys in my pocket and hearing the double beep of the doors unlocking

The more i read this crap the more pleased I am driving old trucks. One truck has a toggle and a button, I wired in a fused link in an inconspicuous spot for security purposes.

My 03 BMW Z4 had the batteries in the Fob go bad, I guess after 16 years nothing lasts forever.
Went to the Dealership for a new battery, said "Sorry" that model had rechargeable battery that would recharge while the car ran, needed a new FOB, didn't ask the price as I knew it would be a few hundred bucks.
If I use it I have to unlock the door with the key, instead of push a button.
I had two other Fob's home that came with the car, one was identical to the one I use, the other one was just the key, no battery.
Tried the other battery FOB and it worked like new, I guess sitting in the drawer for 16 years had no affect on it.

Taking a few steps back, what a marvelous way to mess up a simple, perfectly functional, economical system by the application of technology. Only thing better is being able to unlock and start your car with your cell phone.

Just be forewarned when programming keys or fobs to a Nissan you have to erase all the current ones and add them back in

Good idea!

Not exactly the same thing, but my truck will lock you out, especially if you leave the truck running and have the windows rolled up. My wife has her keys and I have mine, rarely do both of us carry our keys. So I had an extra key made at the hardware store that will open the door, but will not start the truck. IIRC, it cost $5.
I hate the keys for my Dodge pickup. The lock button is on the key and it gets pushed just carrying it in my pocket. One time it had apparently locked as I got in the pickup and started it. I had to run back in the house and found myself locked out of the pickup with it running. My wife was gone for a few days with the extra key in her purse so I had to get a locksmith to open it. $40 for a 15 second job was a lot cheaper than replacing a broken window.
