Just an academic question. For those who use this for big game animals how far away can you comfortably utilize the 6 power on let's say deer?

I've shot basketball sized rocks with mine easily out to 550 yards with my Ruger American Ranch 7.62x39.

The Milquad Reticle is nearly perfect (in my opinion, in the 6x)

I’m very comfortable shooting out to 700 with mine. I practice out to 700 fairly regularly and end up killing them under 300. The scope and reticle are as good as it gets though. If it had lower profile turrets and illumination i doubt I’d use much else.

Took a mule deer at 400 yards with my 25-06, 6x Leupold, 115 gr Berger VLD. Bang-Flop. Later got a coyote at about 420 yards, same setup except 115 Nosler Ballistic Tip. I've taken several animals at 300 - 400 yards with a 6x scope and thought it was just fine.

Scotty talked me into trying the 6x SWFA last year - my goodness - it's a rather nice scope! Particularly for the money. I've got it on my varmint-barreled 308 Win, and am very satisfied with the setup for out to 600 yards on targets so far.

I have used mine out to 530 on my range and did well, even with my bad eyes. I prefer the 10x, though. I have a 6x on a .308 and a 7 mag.

Ya know - I find that to be an awfully long shot too. Particularly in the field, on game. I've never shot game out that far despite the temptation a couple of times.

At a range? Different story, different scope. smile

I distinctly remember wishing for a few more X's when taking my bighorn sheep at 570 yards with a Leupold VX-R at 9X.
Now my hunting scopes are 3-15X.
But everyone has unique preferences and different eyesight..

I've killed deer(ish) sized critters out to 550 yards with my 6X mil quad, plus elk at 600 yards. It was fine at those ranges.

That's where I seem to need a spotter, to help figure my dope at the range. I just get 80 yard shots at game that I could have 30-30'd. LOL

To me, it's not the 6 power that is a problem, it is the readability/usability of the reticle. I have been using these scopes for over a decade. Over the past year my vision has declined such that I am starting to replace my favored 6X SSs with 10X SSs. The reticle in the 10X is more usable for my eyes now.
