First morning look-out.


We were watching over this.






We saw about 10 does that morning and 5-6 bucks. Only does were legal. He had an easy wide open poke at a big doe at 154 yds about 40 seconds after we sat down that morning. But he wanted to hunt a bit and passed. It was a pretty steady stream of deer coming in for about 1.5 hours. The wind got stronger and the temps dropped a bit. So, we got up and went for a walk.



As we were unloading gear into the back of the truck, we got a visit from the warden...which actually turned out to be Ryan looking for us. lol
he even pushed a shelter belt for us to get jack a deer. He kicked one out but it never stopped for a shot.

The after noon hunt turned out to be better in the shooting department.



The next morning....it was time to make a little meat.


It was a great trip and tough to come back. Can't wait til we can head back out!!

Crap, I forgot to mention the details of the gun/load/shot!

He used a Kimber Montana, .223, Leupold VX3 2.5-8. Shooting 55gr TTSX reloads and H4895 powder.

The shot was 127 yds from where it was shot to where we were sitting. The deer took one leap about 6' in the air and dropped dead. That's the 3rd kill with this reload combo. 2 dropeed and one did a 40 yd death run.

The older I get, the more watching the kids be successful is important. Don't get me wrong, I still like to hunt and shoot deer.

Jack's buddy got his first deer that same night on the MN youth hunt. He'll be joining us in a few weeks in WI as well. His dad's busiest season for work is November/December and he won't get to go out. We're pretty excited to have him along. He's a wonderful kid.
