Had a blowout yesterday and riding on the spare so need a tire. Don't want to spend $300 on a brand new one ,just need a good used tire till it's time for new rubber all the way around. 295/70/17. I called every tire shop in 3 surrounding cities and nothing. I can't even find a 285. Scratching my head... ideas?

That's a couple sizes larger than stock, so good like finding a single used one. Maybe search craigslist??

Ran into a similar situation on I81 in one of my work vans with 16 in wheels I’d been buying used tires being a tight ass and a front tire blew out running 80 mph not fun surrounded by 18 wheelers the spare was half flat as well now I make sure I have new rubber and a good spare went to 10 different tire places before I found a tire

Try 305 70 17 that’s what I run on my 2000 F250 seems to be a more popular tire than a 295

I don't think you will find a used one laying around anywhere. According to my calcs that is about 33.25" in diameter. Was that the OE factory size on your truck?....That size must be a heavy 50+ lb LT load range E................Although the width can vary, you need the same diameter or as close to the same diameter as possible if replacing just one tire....... Get on tirerack.com and look at the spec charts for various 17" tires and try and find a size with the closest matching tire diameter of 33.25".............Hopefully you will find some sizes that are much more common where you might find a used one to hold you over............

About those spares...this summer we were camping with some friends. They got a flat on the front of his '07 with a camper on top. We got out the spare which was brand new but 13 years old. It had never been out from under the truck before. It was down to 30lb which we fixed with an inflator but it was badly checked from age, new or not. He took it slowly to town to get the tire fixed and got a newer spare to go underneath.

10-4 RC. I need to pull, test, and maybe replace that spare from under the Ram 3500. It's been under there since at least 2005 or 6. Heck, I don't even know if I can GET it down....

I worked in the tire industry for a long time, (would like to go back) People run these aftermarket wheels with odd sizes and get screwed over all the time. If you own a Porch what ever, but guys buy used trucks running something odd and get screwed, many times I sold a set of "stock" wheels and tires cheaper than they our cost for their aftermarket brodozer tires. If you want to go big and tough look at 19.5 on the 3/4 ton and up trucks there is a lot of SRW 19.5 options (thing railroad) people don't consider and 245/70R19.5 are easy to find. While not pretty and shiny they are made to work, or 225/70r19.5 are close to the same diameter as a 235/85r16. While it increase un-sprung weight it can be nearly as hard on stuff as the goddy 20" bling with ridiculous offsets.

Any auto salvage yards near you.? I kept vehicles in tires for years from there. They usually sold excellent tires mounted on rims and balanced for about a quarter price of new.

I found a 285 for $75. When I bought the truck over 10 years ago it had 295s so I stuck with it. When it's time for new rubber I'll be getting a set of 285s

It had never been out from under the truck before. ........... I never leave my spare tire for the truck underneath.. Within a few months of ownership, it's OFF that cable mount and IN the back of the bed.. Since I rarely remove the 5th wheel hitch, or actually have to haul anything there it's not a problem to leave it in the bed (covered by the Truxedo)... If I need to haul anything, I have enough trailers to suit nearly any job..
