Finally, a serious load is again available for the old Winchester 71. With this load, it becomes a perfect "big bear rifle." Hell, it would be a good one for African lion. If you have a 71 (Browning or Winchester), show your gratitude and go out and get a box of this stuff as a reward to them for making it. Maybe they'll keep making it if we do. A bit expensive, but this is hunting ammo. One box will last years.

The BB ammo I shot in two 35Rs was very accurate and as fast as they said it would be.

My son & I use the Buffalo Bore .348 Winchester 250-grain ammo in our two Model 71's - a 24" rifle and a 20" "carbine." It is excellent stuff - meets advertised velocity (2250 fps), is accurate, & is consistent. Penetration in test medium (and in black bear) is excellent. Buffalo Bore uses an Alaska Bullet Works Bonded Core 250-grain bullet, which I found to expand less but penetrate deeper than a Barnes Original 250-grain. I really recommend this load.

Buffalo bore hey!! Wonder if I can get them up here in the GW North. Actually been having fun reloading ...still it would not hurt to know that a reliable 250 gr. big game bullet is available.

Have had my Win. 71 for a few months now...and cant wait to hunt with it..with 250 gr. barnes I can hit a balloon 3or 4 times out of 5 at 100 yds.

Geez.. wish I heard more chat about the 71... mine is all orginal 24" barrel made in 1939.

How's the shoulder holdin' out? Pushups will help. Almost bort some of those Barnes 250s whilst I was in SLC. Spent too much money an' sumthin' had to be left in the store. What happened to the cast bullets you were tryin'?

I find shootin those 250 gr. barnes behind 50 of IMR 4895 really give me a wallop!!. Accuarte thou. I usally fill up windshield wiper jugs with water or 1 gallon plastic milk jugs. I am OK out to 100 yds standing shots; 150 with a support and thats it. Figure if any elk or moose passes by at less than 200 I got a good chance.

Tried to get some of those 245 gr. Beartooth....seems thier out of stock most of the time.

Adobe Walls told me to use Mag. primers, and of course got a pound of R19 on order should be here any day.

Peep sight gave me headaches for a while but now would not trade it for anything....still I might need to adjust it if I can get more consistent at 150-200.
Got about 200 of the 200 gr. hornadys......need a black bear load thou.

I've got Lyman receiver mounted peeps on my Browning 71. I know this seems hard to believe but, off the bench, this setup keeps them all at around one inch at 100 yards using Winchester 200 grain Silver Tips. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
