My first purchased late 70's, was bad from the factory.
over the next twenty years another dozen purchased, and another bad from factory.
IIRC it was 2 out of 14.........and both of the bad ones were purchased new.

One was replaced quickly, the other repaired quickly, and each worked fine after.
They could be a PITA to zero, but once zeroed they stayed zeroed.

But I'm a set it and forget it type.

Have purchased almost another dozen since, and while all worked, two have issues right off that will probably get them sent back for fix.
Usable, but not as they should be.

I'll be hitting the auction sites looking for a minty compact 4X or a 6X AO.

Half a dozen Redfield Revolutions, zero issues.

Next new scope might be a Steiner.

Once sent in a 20X rubber coated gold ring spotter with my being the third owner. Just noted it did not seem quite as sharp as I expected. Came back with a new front end and no charges. I had shipped on a Monday, and it was back in my hands on Friday. Been fairly loyal but am trying out a Zeiss on one of my cross canyon shooters.

That was kind of exciting, always enjoy a good spanking. grin

As an aside my very first scoped deer rifle had a Redfield 4x. Loved that scope my eyes were better 35 years ago but I swear the optics were as clear and sharp as my $1000 Leupold today.

I used to only use Leupolds, they were solid scopes in the old days, unfortunately the later models are [bleep], I fell for the marketing and religiously upgraded and with each upgrade the scopes just got less reliable.

Seems like one of the 2 threads lost its up top sticky status cause that was where I seemed to remember it being.
What about the other thread that was related to it?

I got a 1.75-5, that should be refurbished. I bought it used and the objective lens looks stained or something, it’s been a while since I had it out.

Amongst the 100 or so Leupold scopes I do own and have owned EXACTLY NONE have failed me!
In a couple of days I will be heading out for Deer and Elk here in Montana - I, of course, will have Leupold scopes mounted on those Rifles for those endeavors!
On an Antelope Hunt I engaged in two weeks ago with friends from the west coast ONLY Leupold scopes were along on the Antelope and Coyote Rifles.
Bought another Leupold last week in fact (Leupold 2x7 variable-rimfire) but I have as yet to put that optic to the test - I guess (according to the few Leupold naysayers on this forum!) there is a chance it will be all haywire and useless!
But I will bet any one person a $100.00 bill it works just fine!
Any takers?
Long live Leupold & Stevens Corporation a fine old American company!

There is a reason companies like Leupold, Glock, Remington,Toyota, Ford, etc.., are so successful.

In one word...VALUE.

I have several and they are good taking care of problems. I have had a few sent back for problems. Good enough for a hunting rifle, but not on my competition rifles.

This really belongs in the optics forum, but that being said Ive had numerous Leupolds, used them more extensively than most use their scopes, and have never had a problem. However there's plenty of folks on the optics forum who don't use them hardly at all, but have numerous complaints about them....

It was a 2.5 -8x 36 1998 gloss.
Set and forget.
Had ta do the leupold chase zero game to get it good also
3 or 4 times over the 17 or 18 yrs i had it changing brands of ammo.
You seen the schit i had ta do shooting that to get it on when i changed rounds that one time.
2 clicks past then back to adjustment i wanted.
Tapping side of turret lightly after adjustments.
Did anything to preserve the gold ring aura in my head.
Anything to have a saint leupold of scope on my rifle.
All for that self perceived gold ring status ....
Fanboy schitt......
Yep that one" worked" .....
After gettting its wonky adjustments into set and forget mode.

Had ta upgrade to the new fancy pants vx3i 2.5 -10×40 when that came out.

What a fugging abortion that was.........

After that fugging fiasco.
Enough was enough......

smirk laugh

Sightron SII 3-9×42
3 of em.
All I own.....
Reliable and solid scope.
They:
Track and adjust per stated value.
Hold zero.
Return to zero.

What a scope should do..........

Next purchase for that nekked mod 70
Will be a swfa 3-9×42 hunter version if they ever make one.

Given the fact that Mule Deer recently posted he'd now had 20 different BRANDS of scopes fail, I's say customer service is still a pretty important and relevant attribute. Leupold wrote the book on customer service, and a few others caught on and implemented their strategy. The deserve credit for that IMO.

It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.
