The guy I sold my Ruger boat paddle stock to (from West Virginia), had went on an Elk Hunt with friends to Utah. One of their friends went missing, and snow stopped the search. I'm just praying for my new friend Brad, and all his family and friends involved. You can read about it here https://www.whsv.com/content/news/A...or-hunter-missing-in-Utah-563562201.html

I've done a few things in my life that can be questioned. Prayers from me go out.

Sounds like a good man, hopefully he has just fallen and waiting for some help, if not, I can't think of a better way to die, high in the rockies hunting one of Gods greatest creations. I hope they find him soon.

I admire old men who still go out and hunt. Some of them old men are tough, don’t count him out just yet. If it’s his time to go, then at least it was while he was hunting. Prayer sent.

GPS isn't expensive or hard to use . For some reason, he left camp without his phone that morning. The first thing I asked was if they tried the "find a phone app". If I ever get a chance to hunt those beautiful areas, I'd think one of those little "Spot" locators would be nice.

69 years old, bad knees, what could go wrong in a national forest in Utah? Th gall of him to try to go out and enjoy an active life in the outdoors. He should be at home in the recliner posting about the good old days on Facebook.

Bummer. We lost a 41 year old here a couple years ago. He and his kid went out hunting and the kid almost didn't make it out either. Dad was never found. There's some big country out there fellas, be careful.

They dont' always sent out instantly, but at least they generally get it out in less than an hour. Much better than not, but for this one its too late for now. But hoping folks read and learn here.

there are snow storms and then there are SNOW STORMS. i am the same age and condition. i always carry fire starter and a bowie knife that doubles as an axe. if the gentleman didn't take a tumble and break his neck or back other breaks can be dealt with. a persons attitude means more than anything. Think Hugh Glass. that said Prayers for him sent.

The article did not mention the altitude of the area where the man was hunting, but I've hunted some places in Utah where a person from "flat land country" could find himself in serious trouble due to altitude sickness. At 69, the altitude could definitely be a factor to a person not acclimated to it.
Hope the hunter is found alive.

L.W. I got to know Brad after I sold him that stock. They go out that way hunting once per year I believe. Seems like the altitude was 12k-13k but I'm not sure. I've been praying since Brad text me and said his friend was lost.

one of the things that comes up, is your brain is not always working at the same level as your body. when young, 20mile hikes in the summer in arizona, no big deal, in the mountains. last year i was up about 7000 feet, ten miles in on a very bad road, axle deep in mud. in an area where i have seen five feet of snow. and i have bad legs now. I was thinking, if i got stuck, how in the world am i gonna walk out of here? i might of done it, over a couple day period. And i did have food, water, heavy clothing and so on. but i decided then to moderate what i was willing to do. If i would have shot an elk, that would have presented another whole set of problems. praying for the guy, but it probably doesn't look good. in my case, i wasn't alone. I had a much younger son in law with me.
