Never owned one (yet) but my answer to any question on red dots, assuming one has the bucks, is Aimpoint. Have had a couple of Bushnells and one Vortex crap almost right out of the box. They were replaced, but that's no help in deer camp.
I still have a few, but only on fun guns where a failure isn't a real problem.
Amazon has 9000-series Aimpoints for under $500.
The failed Vortex may have been a fluke as that particular model has a pretty good rep for toughness, and the other one I have has been used a good bit without issue. Still, like scopes, you mostly get what you pay for, and and if reliability is really important, spend the money and get it,
